"I read other reviews before booking our stay, so I was prepared for the outside noise at night, homeless people outside, and older feel of the hotel.
I was happy to discover helpful staff, and a comfortable lobby ideal for reading in. Parking was down the street.
There was an elevator we could take to our room on the third floor, but we walked the beautiful stairs instead, admiring the art.
The standard king room had a coffee maker with coffee and tea, a very comfortable bed and TV with lots of channels to choose from. The footed bath was nice, (low water pressure), perfect for one person, and included complimentary soap, shampoo, and conditioner for our use, as well as lots of fluffy, white towels. The closet smelled like mothballs, so I hung my bag on the door hooks.
The hotel was in a great location (we checked out the cute businesses in the square, then ate great pizza and pasta at Salt, which was an easy walk away),
The complimentary morning breakfast included options such as coffee, tea, milk, juice, yogurt, bagels, instant oatmeal, waffles and apples - all in a bright room for guests. It was enough of a variety to get us started for the day.
My son is attending CalPoly Humboldt, and this location was a close drive away.
If you're OK with a little noise at night and prefer to be in the middle of shops and restaurants within walking distance, and you love historical, charming buildings that employ caring and helpful staff, you would like this place as much as I did."
