Sweet and Simple
It was old fashioned and quite sweet. It was reasonably comfortable but the fact that it is managed by a larger hotel takes away a bit of the charm. Having said that, the breakfast, which was served in the hotel, was really quite nice.

Very charming. Amenities were very thorough including a kitchen with cooking equipment. A computer, WiFi, a chess board, a dining/public area. The people here are the nicest I have ever met and the town is gorgeous.

Good basic accommodations on Ísafjörður
Guesthouse made from former hospital building in old part of town. Room was large, and good facilities (kitchen, eating area, game table, bathrooms) in rest of guesthouse. Beds were comfortable, but looked like dorm room beds. Good breakfast provided in main hotel building two small blocks away.

Basic lodging in Isafjordur
Basic lodging in a guest house with shared bathrooms. The room had a sink. Our only gripes were with the ancient, tattered towels provided and the free breakfast at the nearby hotel (which was massively overcrowded with subpar food).

Cute stay. I liked that there was no time limit for check in. The dirt roads took us a lot longer than we’d thought and longer than google maps told us because we went slower than the speed limit so it was nice to not feel super rushed getting there and we were still able to fit in the few things we wanted to do on the way.

Property is nice and clean. The area is beautiful. The staff is friendly. The only minor issues was that the toilet seat was broken and only soap was provided (no shampoo). Also, you had to find your own parking on the street. Fortunately we had no issue in this regard, but the street does fill up! But otherwise it was a very nice stay!

We arrived after a very long drive and the guesthouse had a note on the door to check in at another location. We went to the other hotel and no one was at the reception. A couple of telephone numbers was posted to call. No answer. We went to one of the few restaurants in town and asked for help. A waitress knew someone who used to work at the guest house and got in touch with him, and he got in touch with the proprietor of the guest house. The kitchen was dirty,no paper towels, no dish detergent and dishwasher was broken. The lock to our door was as well. They did upgrade us to another of their hotels on our 3rd night and this was very clean and comfortable and much appreciated.

hi, thank you for your stay. This winter/spring we have limited opening hour do to covid19. If called in our main number an answering machine gives up phonenumber for late check in. We hope your stay in Iceland was good. Know our summeropening is starting and every hotel/guesthouse we have will have upgrades to our best. Best regards

ow To Test One’s Patience
Actually did not stay at Guesthouse Isafjordur Gamla. Seems the owner, who owns several other accommodations, closed the Guesthouse. So when we went to check-in you can guess the cluster. The people we spoke with, some of who were not employees, were very helpful. After two hours we had a room in Hotel Horn. Place was acceptable but just a room. Lobby was a mess. Someone brought us a key. Kitchen was closed so no breakfast. Again we were given coupons to a Bakery. No fridge in room so stored our small cooler in yet another hotel. I can only say that the locals were very friendly and helpful!

Adorable, comfortable, convenient, and affordable!
Charming, super clean, lovely guest house. Breakfast included at the nearby hotel was delicious. The shared bathroom/showers were no problem (also clean, no issues with overcrowding) and a sink in our room meant no need to wait for grooming. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again. Walkable to everything, sitting room with games, books, and loads of charm.

It was a nice hotel and I'd stay there again. This time of year (late October) there was no staff so everything had to be done at its affilliate hotel several miles away, but it worked. I didn't like the on street parking, though.

Gamla Guesthouse was quaint and near everything you need in Isafjordur. Beds were comfortable, sink in room a plus, but we kept hitting our heads on the sloped ceilings. There were three WC upstairs: one so small you hit your knees on the door when seated (well, almost) and two with showers were good-sized. Water was hot, and shower big enough to accommodate my tall husband. Floors in hall and stairs were squeaky, but no one was tromping around at night to be an issue. Perhaps if your room was downstairs it would be a bother? Breakfast was typical Icelandic fare, but they had several press pots to allow you to make coffee as you like it - huge plus! Nice seating areas for quiet reading. Wonderful stay, would stay again!

Overall, this is a very pleasant and comfortable place, centrally located and reasonably quiet.. However, it appears that the electrical system is relatively sensitive and the breakers are easily tripped. When cooking in the shared kitchen, having extract fan on at anything but the lower settings was found to trip the breaker, shutting off power to much of the building. When staying at the guesthouse in summer, I would also advise guests to bring a blindfold as there were no blackout curtains in the room I had.

We were not fond of this place and it was definitely at the bottom of our list during our 10 day Iceland trip. The value for cost ratio is low. Carpets were stained and dirty and things just felt dingy. The second floor consists of "kids rooms" converted into guest rooms. Since we were traveling off-season, the place was empty and there was no issue sharing the bathroom. However, I would not want to stay in the dorms during tourist season. The breakfast also was so-so. This was the most expensive place we stayed and we found out that it was owned by the big fancy hotel in town where the breakfast was served. For being the big expensive hotel in town, we were surprised that most of the food was essentially store bought. It was very different from our experiences elsewhere in Iceland where we woke up to homemade breads and other special Icelandic treats. The town is cute and has some interesting things to offer such as a pub next door with good food, live music and resembles something you would find in a university town.

Nice accommodation with character & history.
Gamla Guesthouse is a converted old hospital in a charming historical building in the heart of Isafjordur. I loved the feel of the building inside. There are several nice common sitting areas and a community kitchen. Everything is within walking distance. I would highly recommend it to anyone searching for a guesthouse B&B.

Grande chambre mais dans une bâtisse ancienne très mal insonorisée. Lit qui a bien vécu, manque de confort. Le petit déjeuner est très varié mais pas sur place (dans un hôtel à 5min à pied). Si je devais retourner à Isafjordur j’irais plutôt à l’hôtel directement.
