Castles in Calhoun County

"We stayed for University of South Carolina graduation weekend. Even though it was a busy weekend, this newly remodeled property met our needs. The location was close to where we needed to be and they accommodated our two friendly well behaved dogs. The room was clean and had basic amenities but I wished it had an iron.(there was a steamer in the room). The breakfast was excellent. I thought it was a nice touch that there were cupcakes and snacks in the lobby on arrival to celebrate the graduates of USC!"

"I would give it five star but unfortunately there’s one thing that i disliked. everything about the hotel was nice, they even give a paper with all of the local restaurants and things to do in the area along with having a bar. the room was clean and accessible and very accommodating however my dislike is that the accessibility rooms are for some reason on the top floor and in the very back compared to the elevator. i was made aware of this though before arrival by the wonderful staff- i just don’t understand why the accessibility rooms are the furtherest walking distance in the hotel which can pose a problem to others with mobility issues (this includes being fully carpeted which would also be more difficult for wheelchair users) "

"Although the room was cleaned, it smelled like smoke for a non-smoking room. There was a dirty hand towel left in the bathroom. Air conditioning and parking was great. The staff was great."

"We booked this for one night. We were greeted immediately by a professional, friendly staff member. We were told that no one would be at the front desk between 9pm (I believe) and 7am. It was past 9pm when we settled into our room for the night. So we didn’t notice prior that there were roaches. We had to be up at 4am the next day so we just did our best to smash them and sleep, which was impossible because my daughter was afraid one would crawl on her face in the middle of the night. Needless to say we didn’t sleep well at all. The room smelled like it had been a smoking room and reeked of stale smoke. When my daughter got done with her shower, she put a towel on the floor to wipe up the water she had dripped on it and the towel was literally brown after. Our white socks were black after walking around in them for just a short time. The pillows were SO flat and the sheets and mattress protector were a little too tight for the bed and so it kept coming off the mattress, which wasn’t the cleanest. Other than the hallways smelling bad, we didn’t notice anything else so bad it stood out. We booked this room because it was cheaper than other options. I knew we weren’t staying in the nicest motel/hotel around. I’ve stayed in cheap motels & they were fine because they were clean. But between the roaches & the nasty floor, we didn’t want to touch anything. Would NOT recommend and would have left if we didn’t have to be up so early the next AM and had to stay more than one night. "
