"The space was tastefully decorated and lovely. The room was cool and the bed very comfortable. There is a great view of the ocean from the hotel. A lovely place to relax."
"First, the staff at this hotel are fantastic. They made up for a lot of of the things that have gone downhill.
Rooms and Buildings: When we were there, they were painting the outside of the hotel so at least it looked a little nicer in that regard. Inside, the beds were comfortable and pillows were firm enough to get by. The a/c and ceiling fan did work properly although the fan switch made no sense and the ceiling fan was loud. They apparently have refrigerators to rent, but we never saw those. However, the amazing clean staff did provide us with some Styrofoam coolers which fit our needs. In order to get ice, you need to buy it from the restaurant, which is not the end of the world. The entire facility has definitely seen better days and is rundown a bit.
Location: We chose this location as it was closer to the snorkeling areas where we wanted to drive to and explore. We also chose this location as there was a dive shop that was previously affiliated with it, but that is no longer around and we found that many of the activities we did end up scheduling outside of our snorkeling adventures required us to drive back into town. The next time I go to La Paz, I will be staying in the downtown area instead for this reason and there is nothing to do without driving 30 minutes back to town.
There is a security guard at the entry. The parking lot it's itself is weird and super rough. Free parking though. Cute private beach. There is a pool we did not use and A restaurant."
"Firstly, I rarely review any business good or bad, but Hotel Palmas de Cortez was simply appalling. When checking in, the woman at the front desk would only cut us one key card for the room for 3 people. She said come back tomorrow if you want more. She was incredibly rude. When we got to the room, it was a dump. We had a Presidential suite and it was anything but! It was so run down and disgusting we went back to the front desk and asked for another room. We were subsequently shown room that was covered in more dust, had dead insects on the window sills, stunk of mold and didn't look as if it had been cleaned in months! We eventually stayed in the original room as we had no choice. We went out and bought cleaning products from the local supermarket and cleaned the room ourselves to where it was livable. Housekeeping only made the bed and folded the used towels. I deliberately left dust on one of the sofa arms to see if housekeeping would wipe it off during the 6 nights we were there - it was not! The overall hotel is tired and desperately in need of a facelift and someone who cares about the property. The restaurants on site were terrible however the staff at least were pleasant and helpful. The pool bar doesn't serve food - you have to get takeout! The gym was disgracefully filthy - couldn't use it! We've stayed at many properties in Mexico, some good, some bad, but nothing like this! The website portrays the hotel as something entirely different to reality. Stay away!"
"Overall, I had a great experience at this hotel. Everything was very well maintained, and the staff—though a small team—were incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming.
The property is beautiful and perfect for couples or anyone looking to truly disconnect. I highly recommend staying in the “dome” rooms for a unique experience. Getting there can be a bit challenging due to the sandy road, but once you arrive, it feels like a hidden paradise. The beach is practically untouched, very quiet, and ideal for complete relaxation.
A few suggestions to enhance the experience: the atmosphere can be too quiet at times—adding one or two hours of more upbeat music at the pool could help. Also, the hotel has a pizza oven that isn’t being used, which feels like a missed opportunity for a great lunch offering.
Lastly, I asked if I could invite two friends to visit, planning to spend at the restaurant and bar, but they were required to purchase a day pass. Given how quiet the hotel is and that I was already a guest, this felt inflexible. We ended up going elsewhere, which was a missed F&B opportunity for the hotel.
Overall, a beautiful place with excellent service, and with a bit more flexibility and small enhancements, it could be even better."
