This hotel and a very nice courttyard type layout. The location is really good, right in the heart of the tourist area, only a few short blocks to the beach and malecon.

This older and beautiful hotel sits in the heart of Old Town so is central to many fine restaurants and great shopping. The manager, Martha, is amazing. She is knowledgeable of the area and professional at all times with a warmness that we very much appreciated. The pool area along the river were wonderful! All in all a lovely few days spent there!

Garlands del Rio is a charming boutique hotel. It is their people that stand out and keep people coming back. Martha, Rico and Ivan are all exceptional. The hotel itself is very nice, clean and convenient to everything in the Zona Romantica. We were there during the cartel violence and the hotel staff kept us safe and secure. They did their best under extremely difficult situations. We definitely will return and visit them again.

This place is pure magic ✨ with a genuinely warm, customer-service-oriented staff who make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Misael took wonderful care of us at the garden patio, Marta was incredibly helpful arranging our whale watching and sunset cruise, and Alex’s charismatic personality added such a special touch to our stay. If you’re a cat lover, you’re in for a treat! Simply leave your balcony or bathroom door slightly open (it’s completely safe), and Amelia and Antonio — the sweetest, most affectionate cats — might sneak in to say hello, purr, and ask for a little love. It’s such a charming part of the experience. Garlands del Río is perfectly located in the heart of the city, within walking distance to everything. You may have seen things in the media about Mexico or Puerto Vallarta, but we felt safe, welcomed, and cared for throughout our stay — and we are already planning to come back! Mexico and its people are truly amazing. Don’t let the news fool you. We are so grateful for the hospitality and for being welcomed so warmly into this beautiful country. We love Boutique Hotel Garlands del Río — the staff, the cats, the river, the ambiance, the scent in the air… every single detail. This was our first time staying here. Our room was clean and had a beautiful view across the river. I loved listening to the music from the restaurant across the river as well. The staff were very kind and did their best to make our stay as pleasant as possible including the breakfasts that we had on the outdoor terrace every morning.

you really need to consider the reality of a small, aged, boutique hotel. Charming doesn't count when there is no water in the upper rooms, it takes 3 tries over 2 days to get a working AC and there are multiple winding stairs to many rooms that would make this a nightmare for anyone with mobility issues. Only discount we could get for the inconvenience (thank you to the sympathetic front desk staff) was to cut our 'additional charges' in half. As soon as we booked with Expedia we got an email from the hotel directly offering a better room that had just come free, with breakfast for a daily fee paid directly to the hotel. We would not stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel in Puerto Vallarta with my wife and my parents-in-law for a family vacation. While we truly appreciated the kindness and friendliness of the staff, we were unfortunately disappointed with several aspects of the hotel’s maintenance and basic services, especially considering its 4-star rating. First, the bathroom was located right next to the bed, and there was a persistent unpleasant odor, possibly from a plumbing or water backflow issue. The smell was strong enough to disturb our sleep throughout our stay. This is not something we expected from a hotel of this category. Second, we were informed that room cleaning service would be provided daily unless we hang the “do not disturb” tessel on the doorknob. On our second day, my parents did not hang the tessel, expecting the room to be cleaned while we were out for sightseeing. However, when we returned, the room had not been serviced at all—no cleaning, no fresh towels, and no bed made. This was surprising and disappointing, as daily housekeeping is a very basic expectation. Third, there was no electric kettle, coffee, or tea provided in the room. Guests are instead asked to use a shared guest kitchen, where a communal electric kettle is available. Unfortunately, the kettle did not appear to be cleaned regularly, and there was leftover water inside. No coffee or tea bags were provided either. The staff were great . Our Suite came with breakfast every day and within minutes of sitting down outside they were bringing us fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee, then fresh to order breakfast. The location was great for walking and trying out new restaurants each night. The market was right across the bridge and made for a great early morning walk/run up the stairs and around. (Hope you like stairs as there are lots of levels to the hotel) Only downside was the bars and street noise if you were trying to have a daytime nap (bars usually shut down music at 11pm as they are located in the residential area) there is no soundproofing Our suite the Marrakesh was beautiful with a large very comfortable king bed and fantastic a/c that kept you cool after a long day. We stayed for two weeks the only reason we didn’t give it a better rating was that the hotel needed some care. We pointed out the burnt out lights and squeaky door in our Suite (taken care of right away) Around the quiet pool one of the day beds was broken (told front staff) and you could tell that the self service bar wasn’t really used as the drinking classes were covered in dust. Garlands has two other hotels that you can check out for a fee (both have roof top patios and pools) one is located up the street lovey valley view and quiet location. The other is under construction (lots of noise and dust) but a nice view on the ocean if you don’t mind paying $10 US for an ice cream or $16 us for aperol spritz
