HOSTEL SAID THEY DIDN'T TAKE RESERVATIONS FROM EXPEDIA??? Booked a bed in the dorm and when I arrived the hostel told me they only take reservations over whatsapp even though I had a confirmation for my two night stay booking on expedia. They then said that they had a bed I could book for 3 times the cost that I had reserved on expedia. I would have gone somewhere else but the Easter weekend is super busy in Costa Rica and EVERYWHERE was fully booked. After a bunch of angry conversations I got my bed for the price of my reservation, but the lack of responsibility for the error was incredibly unprofessional. There are only 2 showers and 3 bathrooms and 1 urinal for the entire hostel (hundreds of people stay here). I read in other reviews that the parties super loud, but I was fine in the dorm. What really kept me up was the sound of rats running around that echoed around the dorm which was made out of a shipping container. Honestly I can't recommend this place less. DO NOT RESERVE THROUGH EXPEDIA. Such a terrible experience, will not be returning.

Llegue y mi reservacion no existia en sus registros y solo me indicaron q hace 6 meses no trabajan con expedia. Y nunca siquieran recibi un correo o una llamada para notificarme de esa situacion. Termine mi estancia en otro lugar .

No sirvio la reserva. No nos dejaron ni entrar al hotel. Dicen que no estan afiliados con hoteles.com. muy mal hecho de una pagina tan conocido que pase esto.

Rocking J's is a must if you are looking for a great time! Staff was awesome, live music, fire shows, juggling performances...etc. Highly recommend everyone stay here if they can and book your stay early since they will fill up. Definitely will be coming back!!!!

The worst place Ive ever been. Is disgusting! I saw a HUGE rat and many cockroaches IN THE KITCHEN! Btw I was in the uppee bed and could hear MANY rats on the roof all night Long! Do not stay there!

Lo pasamos bien hablando como si estuviéramos en la cárcel. Porque con buen humor todo se soporta. Pero parecía aquello una cárcel muy cara. Pagamos 30 dólares por una sábana manchada de sangre en un colchón húmedo en una habitación llena de suciedad sin mosquiteras ni ventanas y con la propia discoteca de ellos haciendo ruido hasta las 2 así. Aún así lo peor puede ser el dueño que es un hombre muy maleducado y desagradable. Mi peor estancia y más cara en costa Rica. El baño compartido de uno x uno y sucio. Lo único bueno es que está cerca de la playa. La zona de hamacas guay. El ambiente de noche tb dejaba que desear...

I stayed in a tent and it had a decent mattress. The property is located right on the beach. Not in the center of town but only a 5 to 10 minute walk. Nice big area to socialise.

This is not the place to go to if you want to relax (and not party). The owner is kind, but constantly pushes products on you. They have super loud things going on, and it's not super clean. The days before we left, there was only one working toilet for the whole facility. The showers seem dirty (and the toilets). Oh, and you can hear people loudly having sex at all hours which makes for an uncomfortable situation.

El mejor ambiente.

Excelente lugar, muy recomendable. El ambiente que se vive es Pura Vida!! Está muy bien ubicado, la gente de servicio es muuuuy amable, el lugar está precioso y cuenta con todo lo que uno quiera: playa, comida, cerveza, bicis, camping, habitaciones, cocina, billar, películas, regaderas, agua caliente y sobretodo pura vida!!!

When I arrived at Rocking J’s they did not have my reservation on file. They later found the reservation and informed me that the staff member responsible for reservations did not reserve the room I requested. I was placed in a room that looked like a shack on stilts and it was the size of a closet. The mattress was on the floor and took up the whole size of the room.

Pura Vida!

Rocking J's is a great place for travelers on a budget. Hammocks and tents for the low budget wanderers and a few rooms with private bath and air conditioning. My room was lovely and had an ocean view with a great porch. The staff was very friendly and they kept the grounds clean. Rocking J's is more suited to a younger crowd and I felt comfortable. My only complaints were no Wi-Fi in the rooms and there was mold in the ceiling which really needs attention in that one unit. The grounds are clean and it is the most eclectic hostel in Puerto Viejo.

Rockin J's is a fun place but I can't get over all of the misogynistic "art" everywhere. The number of sexual references to women and their genitalia written (or drawn) all over the walls were mostly unsettling and almost overwhelming. Great location at the end of town on the way to beaches, as well as near some awesome restaurants/bakeries (although Puerto Viejo is small enough that I'm not sure proximity to anywhere matters). Great beach-side setting with a "private" beach, if you will, that has nice tidal pools to swim in. It's a good place to meet other travelers. Wifi doesn't extend to all of the rooms, which is frustrating if you are the digital nomad type. Also, my party booked a Private Double Room with A/C but when we got there we found out that those rooms don't exist.

We had the “establo de lujo” best room but it only had 1 blanket for me and my friend , I went over the reception to ask for more and they said they ran out :-/ so it was uncomfortable to share the same blanket and the windows didn’t have curtains and we had to use the bathrooms carpet to cover it because otherwise people from outside would see through and zero privacy

Cool ställe med kakel överallt, väldigt chill atmosfär och det var gratis yoga varje morgon som var jättebra! Vi bodde i ett tält som hade en tjock madrass på golvet så det var förvånansvärt bekvämt, men det lät mycket från baren på kvällen. Köket var inte så rent och hade dåligt med utrustning, men helt ok.

They actually don't care about you, they show no interest in people, your only a number. The internet only works in the reception area. We were very disappointed.

Descrição das comodidades do quarto é falsa. Em momento algum diz q os quartos de casal tem banheiro compartilhado. Diz que ha frigobar no quarto, mas nem sinal. Quarto parece um presídio. Funcionários não quiseram assumir a responsabilidade do que estava escrito no anuncio. Trocamos de hotel na ultima noite e não devolveram o dinheiro. Na noite de reveillon vimos casais fazendo sexo no banheiro (que era compartilhado) e sequer tinha um funcionário para evitar essa baixaria pública ( ambiente com crianças) Na manha do dia 1 de janeiro TODOS os banheiros estavam entupidos, imundos, fedorentos. O local parecia um chiqueiro...muito nojento. Não tem agua quente. Sinal de wifi quase inexistente. Redes e barracas misturadas no mesmo ambiente.
