We booked the Shibu Hotel as part of our plan to visit the nearby Snow Monkey Park. The quality of the hotel sevice was immediately evident when they provided a car to collect us from the station. They then drove us to the Snow Monkey Park and arranged to collect us when we had finished our visit. (In passing, the Snow Monkey Park is a 'must see' in the winter - spectacular views of dozens of macaque monkeys enjoying the hot thermal springs.) On our return to the hotel, we were 'immersed' in the...

Was a most wonderful and relaxing experience. Only the fact that the indoor pool is closed for the whole month of June was disappointing.

The hotel and staff were amazing and more than we could have expected. No question was too silly and no request was out of the question. It was really easy to get to aswell, just a 6 minute walk from the train station. Even though it was so close the area and hotel was still so quiet and very very peaceful. K the concierge was so patient with us, as not local speakers, and was just so thoughtful in his explanations of the hotel and local area as well as organising transport and tips for the...

A bit of a culture change for the uninitiated, but this hotel is incredible. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are just lovely and served in a traditional environment that sets you up for the day. Wish we could have stayed for longer.

Onsen was excellent with a great view of the valley.. evening meals well worth the half board

This was our first ryokan experience and we couldn’t have been more impressed. The staff were fantastic, the kaiseki dinner and breakfast were incredible and our room, with a private Onsen, was stunning. The area around the hotel is so picturesque. We had a great time exploring the streets, in our provided yukata, trying all the public onsen. We will certainly be back to Shibu Onsen

This hotel was an incredible experience from the moment we arrived at the station where a staff member of the hotel was waiting to pick us up with a shuttle to the hotel without us even requesting that service. We were greeted with a warm welcome at this beautiful hotel with green tea, shown to our beautiful room and the lovely staff explained the amenities available. The room was comfortable, the multicourse meal that evening was top quality and because of the special occasion we were surprised...

Had a lovely stay at this Ryokan and would highly recommended it. Staff were kind & accomandating and made sure I felt welcome as a solo traveller. When they heard I intended to visit the monkey park the day I arrived, they especially arranged for transportation to take me there. The ryokan is english-friendly, especially my server for dinner who could hold a conversation. Food featured local ingredients and was excellent.

We were looking for a more traditional Japenese experience whilst also wanting to see the Snow Monkeys and this place did not disappoint! Free shuttle from the station to the hotel and we were greeted by very lovely staff members who gave us really useful info on the hotel and the onsen’s within the village. The hotel comes with 9 onsen’s which you can book and get private use through ur the day (no need to book after certain times, you just enter and lock the door). The hotel is also part of...

The property is a bit old, but kept clean and guests are very well looked after, hosts are great. Perfect location for snow monkeys.

Gorgeous area and hotel. Hotel was quiet and smelled amazing. Great onsen options and spa options. Lush town within easy walking distance. Gorgeous views from the room.

The on site Onsen natural baths, being able to choose either a private Onsen or alternative public baths, in the hotel. The private baths meant we could have the bath space to ourselves and wear a cosi! We were provided lovely fresh linen traditional robes, towels and footwear, fantastic traditional experience staying in this traditional Japanese accommodation, family run, with everyone being super helpful and friendly. Free coffee machine in reception. Why stay in a concrete tower block when...

I will be up front, this is an older property with some older sensibilities, not everything is pristine and glistening and new. What you do get however is one of the most charming bath houses, set against a backdrop of stunning mountains. It is a family run business and they will and do go the extra mile for their guests. I cannot reccomend more than if you are going to see the snow monkey park nearby that you stay here, enjoy the fantastic ambiance, a thoroughly musical breakfast and some of...

Private onsen in room. Japanese style breakfast and dinner. Ski-in-ski-out to gondola and quad lift which lead to many beginner to advance trails. Loads of amenities. Park a car at hoppo onsen bus stop and call the hotel to pick us.

The guy that looked after us, Satoshi, was really nice and very accommodating- he didn't speak english and we didnt speak Japanese but we got by. It was end of season and very quiet feeling like we had the place to ourselves. It was clean and immaculate. The breakfast was beautifully presented and ample. He met uas at the station and dropped us off as well as taking us elsewhere as and when needed. A really good experience and we would return.
