Extremely warm welcome from Benoit to this spacious and comfortable house right opposite the Menin Gate in the centre of the town. The house is filled with memorabilia from the First World War. We were very pleased to join Benoit for the moving last post ceremony at the gate.

Amazing house right next to the Menin Gate - it was lovely to view from the bed in the main bedroom. More importantly, Ben was an excellent host and gave us some fantastic insights into the history of the city and ceremonies Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

WWI history tour

Absolutely perfect stay in a large, very comfortable house filled with treasures. Fantastic location next to the Menin Gate and walking distance to great restaurants and shops. Our host was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Fabulous location in Ypres

Wonderful house overlooking the Menin Gate. Great location for a stay in Ypres with all facilities within walking distance. Ben was a brilliant host with all of his knowledge and even gave us a vip experience of the Menin Gate ceremony. The house was very comfortable and clean. We would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic location and property. Located less than a stone throw from the Menin Gate, and the view from the main bedroom of the Gate itself is very impressive. Superbly furnished and the most comfortable bed I've slept in! Loved the focus on the story of the Menin Gate - some of the pictures and artifacts that fill the house are fantastic, and really add to the ambience and history of the area. The host was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable - and attending the evening ceremony with him was an unexpected pleasure and honour. Really enjoyed our stay. The town itself is lovely, the town square packed full of good shops and excellent restaurants (I'd most certainly recommend the Captain Cook restaurant) . If you are looking for a base to visit the WW1 sites and museums, I'd certainly recommend Menin Gate House - the whole visit was first class from start to finish.

A fantastic house right by the magnificent (and very moving) Menin Gate. It is very comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. The historical information and original artefacts displayed throughout the house set the scene for commemorating all that this beautiful town and it’s people have endured. Ben, the host, was fantastic, informative and couldn’t do enough for us - thank you once again Ben as you helped make our stay very special indeed. The Last Post ceremony is a very emotional experience, they will not be forgotten.

Extraordinary house, with historical interest

A fabulous house split into two apartments, with shared access. We stayed in the lower apartment comprising lounge, dining room and kitchen, with access to a beautiful pared down outside terrace with table for breakfast or dinner (Churchill Duplex apartment). On the first floor there were two bedrooms, with the master bedroom at the front having an ensuite bathroom. Fantastic views across to the Menin Gate opposite. The Menin Gate is floodlight at night, so a little light does filter past the sides of the blinds so be aware if you want to have a completely dark bedroom-but what a view! Visiting coaches park opposite but only for a few hours each evening prior to the Last Post, and they are gone straight afterwards. The house is stuffed with artifacts and pictures relating to the Great War and the Menin Gate, so you have your own little museum! A 10 minute walk through the Menin Gate gets you to the centre of Ypres with shops, bars and restaurants. We really liked Ypres, with quality shopping and a very relaxed atmosphere. Obviously, in terms of sightseeing and visiting areas relating to the Great War, you are close to many things. Short term parking outside the house is possible, with free parking 5 minutes up the road, a short walk away. I would highly recommend Menin Gate House, and indeed plan on taking my elderly father to stay there next year for a long weekend.
