"My spouse and I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Izukyu! I'm already planning to come back later in the summer. My Japanese is limited so we really appreciated the staff doing their best to explain policies in English. We stayed in a Japanese style room, it was huge and had everything we needed and more - and the view of the ocean was fantastic! We also took advantage of the private onsen, highly recommend. Buffet breakfast had a ton of great options, and we appreciated how large the dining room...

"Great place for families visiting Shimoda and Izu Peninsula. Definitely a hotel catering to Japanese tourists, but with a little Japanese and respect the staff is very friendly and works with you. Some of the staff spoke some English. Bathhouse, arcade, and hotel amenities were great. Walking distance to everything downtown and easy spot to drive to other locations. Would definitely stay here again with family on vacation. "

"one of the best authenic japanese seafood dinner and breakfast ever had. not for the picky eater. raw fish and seafood caught right off the shores of the hotel. older hotel with a beautiful beach right in front. if not a raw fish seafood eater, shimoda town wth quite a range of restaurants including italian and western fare. unreal indoor private bath or large public bath with excellent views. great if you want to go native!"

"The owner (presumably) was very kind, helpful, and even speaks English! She runs a relaxing and casual property, and because of its small size, it is easy for her to communicate with and assist visitors - which is exactly what she does! I highly recommend this hotel to Oshima tourists who are looking for a quiet, soothing place to unwind and enjoy their stay. All staff members are friendly and will help you as soon as you need something."

"Up a steep drive to a welcome that every traveller looks forward to. Warm, honest in a beautiful house with views over the sea to die for. This family hotel treats you like a member of the family and is there when needed but leaves you to enjoy your holiday. We even were given a lift to a local restaurant for our evening meal. We felt totally relaxed and booked an extra night it was so good. We were sad to say goodbye even though our stay had only been two days. We would definitely come...

"Great place to stay. Hotel is in a secluded spot with great views and facilities. Sitting down in the onsen bath overlooking the ocean after a hard day travelling. Could not think of anything better. Only small down side is that you need to drive to access restaurants, and convenience stores. Hotel has a restraunt but need to pre book so plan for this. "The proprietor let us in very early in the morning. Fed us breakfast and checked us into our room by 7:30 AM (the ferry comes at 5:30 AM). He drove us around the island and arranged for our rental car. The dinner he served was absolutely amazing!"
