The hotel itself is fine, it’s about 12 mins walk from JR station. The main problem is the area around JR Abashiri and the hotel. Before 11am and b/w 1430-1700hrs, you could not find any cafes /restaurants for breakfast, tea break and early bird dinner. It is not recommended for whom travelling by JR train/ intercity bus, without self-driving. Lost much time on connecting bus and train but no good meal as a return.

I didnt know about the parking fee unfortunately, my total cost was almost 20 yen more than I was expecting. Otherwise the room and amenities were great. The hot spring was great but it was a bit cramped.

This hotel close to public transports and shops. People are friendly and willing to help whatever they can . Highly recommend to visit to Japan if you has not done so.

Very nice hotel with brilliant onsen
This is a very comfortable hotel with friendly staff. We were on tge 8th floor and had a good view of the river. Breakfast was very good. Japanese style but with lots of choice. They also do free ramen in the evening, but was from 9.30pm so too late to be appealing to me. Lots of restaurants nearby, particularly doing seafood. The real benefit of the hotel was the onsen on the top floor. Wonderful views and even had an outdoor hot pool and a sauna as well as the usual baths. The sign did say no tattoos. I have a very small one on my foot and nobody said anything, however there were very few women in the onsen (i only saw one). My boyfriend said the male onsen was busier (probably because the hotel seemed to cater for trabelling businessmen). So if you habe a big/obvious tattoo, this hotel may not be for you.

Clean, well-located hotel with mediocre breakfast
The hotel was fine. It's a bit ridiculous that they charge (700 JPY) for parking outside in a lot behind the hotel when Abashiri is a small town with a plethora of free parking. Hokkaido is not like the rest of Japan and open spaces are all over. Parking should be free, but not a very big deal. Breakfast here was rather miserable. Everything served was either cool, room temperature or tepid at breakfast. For 1,500 JPY for adults that is just unacceptable. This breakfast was the biggest disappointment of the stay. Next time I'd just walk across the street and get an onigiri (rice triangle) at 7/11 for 110 yen instead.

Overall the stay was nice. Good points were the rooftop onsen, free soba, and there is a sliding door that separates the bedroom and door entrance (it prevents the light from on-ing due to motion sensor). The pajamas provided are soft and comfortable. Discount tickets to certain museums available at Front Desk. Oh, they even let you check the status of your laundry via the room tv so you don't have to keep leaving your room to check if it is done or not. Bad points were 1) the aircon was horrible. The setting is fixed at 'warm room' and can no way be adjusted to 'cold room'. Front desk told me my only options were to either keep on and off the aircon as it will be slightly cooler when u on it, or to open the window. 2) Parking spaces within their premise is very limited and it is the automated kind where it goes into a lift. If your car is too big, then you have to park outside, behind the 7-11 opposite the road. This is also where you have to park if there isn't any space within the premise, so good luck if it rains.

Probably the most modern hotel in Abashiri.
Although a 10mins walk from the train station, location was not too bad considering there was a 7-11 directly opposite. Room was compact but neat layout and very cosy for two. Hotel also provided free hot/ice chocolate at the lobby area, which was a plus for us. Onsen experience was good too with both indoor and outdoor warm water baths, as well as an indoor cold water bath. Hotel gave a much more modern feel compared to the hotels in the surrounding area. Generally a positive experience.

Dormy Inn Abashiri was very clean, nice, and had a very good breakfast. Rooms are a little small and I assume targeted towards people staying for business, but the service is very professional and accommodating. The on-site onsen was an especially nice touch and the provided pajamas were surprisingly comfortable.

Akashi ri in Winter
Touring in winter, my room had a great view of river. Abashiri is small by Japanese standards but interesting and local people friendly and engaging. Lots of snow.
