"I was just coming off a tour and had an extra night to spend in Arusha. Rather than spend the night in the tour hotel I decided to try Mc-Elly's for about 4x LESS the price. The area in the daytime is a bit chaotic (industrial area) but it's the real Africa not what I saw in the tour hotel. As soon as the sun goes down it was very quiet. Loved sitting out on my balcony. Breakfast was great, lots of variety and the manager of the hotel even greeted me asking me how I found everything. Nice...

"I stayed here recently for business, and found the hotel to be a slightly dated design. Hotel staff and porters were exceedingly helpful, but service was very slow in the dining hall (probably as we were a big group). The hotel very kindly opened the breakfast hall early one morning when we were going on a safari day, and we were pleased to see a full range of breakfast was available then. Sadly after getting back from the safari there was no hot water. No wifi availble in the rooms, and the...

"We stayed at Joshmal Hotel for one night, and had a good experience. The room was nice and clean, and the staff was friendly. We were leaving pretty early the following morning, so they arranged for breakfast to start a little earlier than usual, so we got to eat before we left."

"The place is what you pay for I guess. You'd think £60 would go farther in Tanzania but apparently not, Arusha is expensive.
Basically, rooms are like prison cells, bathrooms terrible, and it took a few tries to find a room with working aircon. Staff were friendly enough if a little inefficient.
What is with having to ask for toilet paper all the time - just have some in the room, its a basic necessity!!!"

Mount Meru Game Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"What a great place! Huge gardens with birds and monkeys. Staff were exceptional. A perfect retreat before or after flying...good for a few days. We enjoyed the guided forest walk and massages. Food was very good. Rooms are lovely. Highly recommend "

Tulia Boutique Hotel and Spa
10/10 Excellent
"Staff were 5 star quality - really impressed that while I was there it was my home - nothing was to big or small to ask.
Handy distance from town without being too close. Nice and quiet in the evenings 😊
They even packed a breakfast for me to take to the airport when I left at 0300 😳
Food was great in the restraunt and quick walk to local vendors.
Felt safe in the hotel and walking in the local area.
Thanks to the whole team for giving such personalised customer care 💜"

Airport Planet Lodge at Kilimanjaro Airport
10/10 Excellent
"Great place to stay close to airport with complimentary airport shuttle— even at 4:00 a.m.! They provided a complimentary boxed breakfast to take along. Staff is extremely nice and room was comfortable and had a/c. Highly recommend! Oh, and I received an excellent massage😊"

Sanna Boutique Hotel
6/10 Okay
"The hotel is in the heart of Arusha city center. Great location and walking distances to cafe shops and restaurants.
Breakfast is very limited, but they can do better than what they offer. Arusha has plenty of fresh food coming from the farms everyday I don’t see why they shouldn’t take advantage of that.
The only one thing that I thought was outrageous was room service. They charge $12 for room service and if you bring any food in your room from outside they charge $10 cleaning charges. For this is not acceptable if you are playing $140-$150 per night. "

Rivertrees Country Inn
10/10 Excellent
"This was our meeting place for a night (although we spent several night before) prior to a Nat Geo Great Migration Safari in Tanzania. The staff were friendly, helpful and all around best. The could not do enough for us. It was a delightful stay. "

Kiboko Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"The location of this lodge is amazing, offering a serene setting to enjoy the wildlife of Tanzania when not on safari. The lodge sits on the edge of a marsh and gave us multiple terrace options (including a private one attached to our room) to do some bird watching. While there , we saw the African fish eagle and Black-and-white cascade hornbill, songbirds too many to count, along with some visiting Vervet monkeys. The staff were among the most attentive and friendly that we have experienced and our room (the Simba house) was everything we could hope for. We highly recommend it if you’re looking for a quieter place to relax. "
