Villa Doris Suites

"Firstly, and this is important to note, do NOT worry or be concerned with hideous, abandoned building adjacent to property. Villa Doris is EXCELLENT! Building is safe, very clean and apartments were spacious and AC ran well. It has very basic decor, but comfortable. Enjoyed having full kitchen. But the best thing is the location! Steps from front door is Praia Dona Anna as well as the boardwalk which you can hike to many stunning viewpoints all along the way to the lighthouse. If you walk in the other direction, you can see more beaches and end up in old town. Hotel is very close to a full grocery store, but there is a mini mart at the corner. Do note that website lists laundry as an amenity. They charge per item! Instead, drive to local grocery store Spar (5mins away). Next to grocery entrance is a coin laundry. The only other negative is albeit a very safe underground garage, the spaces and turns are very tight and can be very difficult to park."

"Beautiful property with a nice pool, great food and direct access to a cliff walking path with stunning ocean views. My husband and I especially liked the short walk from the hotel to Ponte da Piedade at sunset. The rooms were spacious, clean and well kept. The hotel’s property is a 10 minute drive to downtown Lagos which was fine because Ubers were readily available and extremely affordable. The food was delicious but I think my husband got food poisoning during our stay and instead of trying to accommodate or help, the manager deflected blame away and said that “the only way to know if it’s food poisoning is to have a diagnosis from a doctor” and that there was no way to know for sure it was from the food at the hotel despite having lunch and dinner on the property the day prior. My husband had to stay in the room and miss a day of vacation to recover. They sent him some toast, bananas and apple juice but honestly, I was disappointed in how the situation was handled."

"Hotel was exactly as described, very clean with a really nice pool/bar area. The breakfast was fantastic with several different options and the rooms were great. Also a close walk to the beach which was a plus. Would stay here again!"

"Excellent reception and housekeeping staff but poor service by pool and at lounge. Room and property were beautiful. Mattress needed to be rotated, which they did, after we complained that the mattress was sagging. Breakfast was awesome but alcoholic drinks were overpriced. Air conditioner was not cool enough ."
