The room was good and housekeeping staff pleasant and helpful.
The Spa, pool and garden were also good.
The hotel was let down through reception staff not being helpful, such as giving limited answers re transport, eg, such as telling us shuttle bus bus ran once a day Monday to Friday but failing to say there was a local bus 7 days a week that stopped at main gate.
A voucher for a Welcome! free cup of tea or a glass of local cider that apparently only German guests had a taste for, was supplemented by another Welcome Gift! In the room of four tea & coffe sachets, with 2 small portions of milk that would be replaced as required at a cost of €4… There was also a bottle of water.
The room contained no hotel info whatsoever so any questions required locating a member of staff who, apart from the afore mentioned reception staff, were difficult to find.
The spa bar menu and the evening Henry’s bar menus were supposed to be similar but the evening one was very limited. We were told on our second night it was only possible to order wine by the glass in Henrys after being served a bottle by the restaurant manager the previous evening…
To be fair, the buffet breakfast was good, as was the restaurant dinner we had. The restaurant manager was excellent and stood out against other staff, apart from the shuttle bus driver who was also very helpful.
The hotel lacked a warm ambiance and had an air of the British Fawlty Towers tv series about it.
This is not a 5 star hotel.
