The lakes within the Uvac Special Nature Reserver were formed when three dams were built in the 1960s. The water flooded the valley and is as deep as 350m in some places. The Uvac River is 119km long and travels from Serbia’s Pešter plateau to form the border with Bosnia.
You can take a boat ride on the river - some of which will pull up at the side of the canyon where you can walk up to a lookout up the top. Not all tours do this as the operators can't be sure the 3km steep hike will be suitable for everyone.
If you can, stay in a local guesthouse and ask the owner to arrange a tour for you. These are usually better than the regular trips organised by the tourism organisation.
