"When we arrived the whole apartment smelled of sewer, like there hadn’t been anyone in several weeks. After a few hours of running water intermittently and opening the window we could get the smell out. There was both a dishwasher and a washing machine but nowhere to hang wet clothes to dry. Hanging them on the (turned off) towel dryer in the bathroom made the clothes not dry at all in 2 days as the bathroom was always very, very humid. "The location can’t be beat. The property is very unique and in excellent condition. Our only negative comments are that there is no mention online of the lack of a lift. Our room was on the 4th floor so hauling our suitcases up 4 flights of a small winding staircase was a challenge. Also the lighting in the attic room was very dim."

"The Gotyk Hotel is in the middle of the Torun tourist district, next to the scenic Vistula River. The hotel rooms are small, but comfortable—and you won’t spend much time in your room anyway because of the many things to do in a small 8-block area. The buildings are all beautiful, in a gingerbread architectural style, which emphasizes the historical importance of gingerbread to the town. Since Copernicus was born there, his family home has been turned into a museum, emphasizing the importance of his discovery that the sun, and not the earth, was the center of our solar system. There are gingerbread museums, mining museums, salt museums, and others, all explaining how Turin was an important trade center for centuries — a town that was fortified and protected against invasions. The Gotyk Hotel serves an amazing breakfast starting at 7am and has a restaurant for lunch and evening meals. In addition, there are many quality restaurants in walking distance. If you have a vehicle, the hotel has several reserved spaces in front. Spend 2-3 days at the hotel and you’ll realize you need to come back for a future trip to see many of the things you didn’t have time to do."

"I have been here a few times over the years and it has always been a bit ropey but it's cheap. I turned up to find I had to drive through a construction site to get to the entrance to park. Parking has never cost here but I was surprised to now find out that I had to pay 35pln (£7) to park in what can only be described as a construction site for a hotel which you cannot reasonably access by foot. There are no facilities at this hotel, no restaurant, vending machine, so if you had managed to walk there, you would have to walk through the construction site and up the highway to get anything. I told the receptionist that the car park was not worth 35pln and she told me that it's not her decision to charge for it. Great. Totally understand its not her call but maybe a little better response might have stopped me walking out and going to a better place just up the road. The car park charge was the tipping point for an already poor decision of mine to stay here because it was cheaper by a few pounds and the charge was just a blatant money grab. It's obvious I wouldn't get a refund, but it was out of principle that I left to find somewhere else. This hotel is the first in Bydgoszcz to be added to my never consider again list of bad hotels. "

Copernicus Torun Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"We had a lovely big apartment with two rooms and everything was very clean. The breakfast spread was very good. We ate in both the bar and the Salt restaurant. Both were good and the Salt restaurant had an unusual menu selection. The pool was also good although it would have been helpful if the swimming lessons had been in one area of the pool leaving the rest for guests. The hotel is well located for the Old Town and we went to a restaurant there one night. I would definitely stay there again."
