We really appreciated the fact that we could check in early and also the breakfast was great. Upon checking in, we were told that the room had a kitchen area with a large fridge, but no stove (which was fine - we weren't cooking anyways), but what was strange was there was no bathroom sink or mirror in the bathroom. To get ready in the morning you had to use the kitchen sink and the mirror in the room was about 3' feet away from the sink.

When i first walked in, i noticed a bad stench in the air and the bed looked like it had been slept in. The windows were filthy and the chair looked filthy too. It was a cloth chair that was very worn and I felt the need to put a towel down before sitting down. The light switch felt sticky and looked dirty. Many of the outlets were non-functional. The wall had paint splotches and hadcurtaion holes left unfinished from the last remodel. On a more positive note, the staff member was nice and the room was quiet. Also, the price was very good.

Not a bad breakfast. Didn’t see a pool. But says they have one. Not a big deal cause didn’t have time to use it anyway. The owners were so nice and welcoming. It’s a great little place to stay. Definitely will stay there agian when I’m in clarion!

Great Little Hotel in a Small Town

We were returning for my wife's 55th High School class reunion. We booked the Hometown Inn not knowing what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. A new young couple has recently purchased the Hotel and they are making great changes and upgrades. It was clean, well appointed and everyone was extremely friendly. They have even added breakfast, that while it was sparse, was certainly adequate for our needs. For a small town hotel, this is fabulous!

This property is under new owners. It is in rural Iowa and an older facility. Well maintained and clean. the new owners were very accommodating and they have plans for upgrading this property.

Dead bolt on room door wouldn't lock , sheets on the bed felt like the wasn't dry, tv wouldn't work very good and carpet felt like it was wet . Too many things to say will never stay there again.

Room smelled. Had to ask for towels. Breakfast was something to be desired. Absolutely terrible! We paid for two nights and had to leave due to unforeseen circumstances and they would not refund our money. Will never stay there again.

Staff was very nice and accommodating. The building needs major updating. Doors are heavy and stick in place. Carpeting in rooms should be replaced with laminate for health reasons. In the room where we stayed, the toilet seat was loose and slid every time we sat. The refrigerator door didn’t close, so it was useless, and electrical outlets didn’t adequately hold a plug. Although the bathroom was probably clean, it “felt” dirty because it was so outdated - sealant strips along the bathtub to hide broken caulking/mold, yellowed linoleum and tub, shower head caked with lime. They provide a “continental” breakfast that was cereal and toast. They were introducing a hot breakfast of scrambled eggs, waffles, biscuit and gravy. The eggs had a strange after taste, like burned rubber. I had had two bites and went for white toast (one option) instead. The tables were not tended and subsequently dirty. My advice: Skip the hot stuff and get some decent bakery items. Fortunately, we will probably never need to return to the area overnight.

It was a place to lay our heads

There were hairs in the bed. We checked in at 5pm. Check on it's listed for 3pm, and they still hadn't cleaned it yet. I had a cold shower. Soap dispenser had muck at the bottom, and couldn't use it. One of the beds, when you moved springs would pop up and poke you. At least it was a closer stay fir going to the hospital the next morning.

The property manager, was extremely helpful and understanding. I used Expedia to book two rooms for two nights and prior to check in had to modify the reservation to cancel one night in the second room. Expedia did not provide the hotel with the update and I was concerned I would still be charged for it. As we were travelling for a family funeral, I was concerned about any additional costs and was not emotionally prepared to deal with Expedia's errors. Fortunately, she was understanding and didn't charge me for the night. She went far beyond what I would have ever imagined she would do to ensure our stay was as stress-free as possible. Thank you for your kindness and compassion during a very difficult time. If you are planning to book at this hotel, call the hotel directly and bypass Expedia.
