A very friendly welcome and a comfortable stay. Evening meal and breakfast very tasty and much appreciated. The en-suite bathroom appears to have been recently upgraded and is amongst the best I have encountered in hotels of this size. The Newcastle Arms would be my first choice if I were visiting the area again.

Lady serving breakfast is lovely, very friendly. Breakfast (full English and scrambled eggs) divine!
Obviously not showing its 300 year age, but a little worn around the edges. great local, lovely breakfast and evening meal. Owners personable and helpful and so good to see that they are so busy. Keep up the good work!

Extremely generous
The staff and management here are so helpful and friendly. Even donated towards our charity event. Overwhelmed by the generosity. Lovely meal cooked for us after a long drive. Thank you for a lovely stay.
We had to contact the hotel in advance because we had a delay in our arrival. They were splendid: helpful, friendly and understanding. We were only there two days to help our family to relocate but we couldn't fault the service, the breakfast or the staff. Super.
Good location in the Scottish Borders. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. We chose to eat in the hotels small but very homely restaurant and the food and service was first class .
Excellent service, and very good value. Comfortable and clean. Excellent breakfast (included). Very good attention to detail. The only drawback for us was having an attic double room which was too small really, and needed to have a window open (summer) letting in the constant overnight noise of heavy lorries passing the front of the hotel.
very good-clean-great food
bathroom-toilet seat needs replacing

Value hotel - tired interiors, but great breakfast
Well placed in the centre of Coldstream, and a handy stopping off point before Edinburgh.Free parking.
However, interiors are tired.
Be prepared for the hotel's bar food menu to be the only game in town if you want a mid-week meal.
The family room we had was nicely furnished but had some things letting it down. The floor had not been cleaned properly. Limited sockets meant the kettle had to be boiled on the floor. The TV was tiny relative to the room (15 inch). The bathroom was very tired and had not been renovated in many years. The toilet lid was so worn the wood was showing through, the cleaning had started but not finished in the bath and balancing the hot water v. cold to avoid a freezing shower was a challenge.
The food in the restaurant was really good both at night and at breakfast, really good value too.
My stay at Newcastle arms was a very pleasant, the hotel had a nice welcoming atmosphere. The staff were friendly and welcoming and helpful nothing was to much for them to make sure my stay was a very nice experience I will definitely be staying there again.
We so enjoyed Sylvia's hospitality and our stay at Newcastle Arms! This was a quick overnight for us between the ruined abbeys and heading further into Scotland, and the room was perfect and breakfast plentiful. Wonderful service and people - much appreciated!
Service was great. I was concerned when I went in the premises on entry looked a little tired, but the room was nice & clean, well maintained.
The food was excellent with the addition of hot stone steaks to cook it to my preference.
I was on large heavy motorbike so was unable to safely park in an already full car park, the off road parking in the square was safe & secure, I had problems at all
Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was good. The rooms could do with updating, wardrobe looked like it would fall apart if you touched it and the electrics were not up to standard. Annoying that you had to put the kettle on the floor to make tea!!

Booked a room for 4 people. When we arrived the only room left had x1 double & x1 single bed. A bit disappointing after a long drive. Anyway staff very friendly and a fantastic Scottish cooked breakfast
