Located in the heart of town, it is the perfect place for a Berkshire getaway.you can walk everywhere and sit on the porch and lawn to read, sip wine, or simply enjoy the outdoor firepits. They also have activities throughout the summer."

"The staff was a husband & wife ownership. They were very nice. The wife was helpful giving us recommendations on where to go. They were accommodating placing a bigger refrigerator in our room for all our perishables. The only drawbacks was the pool was out of commission on the hottest weekend of the summer, Due to the rain. The bathroom was big but only had 1 hook to hang a towel on. There was no storage to place clothes on while taking a shower or getting dressed only back of toilet or floor....

"No detail to my comfort was missed! The innkeeper had fresh baked goodies every afternoon and hot breakfast made from scratch. The historic property is beautiful and convenient to so many art galleries, sweet towns, trails and Tanglewood. Highly Recommended!!"

"Innkeeper is friendly and the place was fairly clean. Lovely to have coffee and complimentary breakfast on site. Rooms (especially the bathrooms and baseboard heaters) are somewhat dated and could use a refresh. Visited during a chilly time of the year and thermostat was tricky to operate. Heat was set not to go above 75 degrees, which was less than ideal."

"We were disappointed that this "Inn" is really an older motel, run together with another older motel across the highway and a converted barn/restaurant. We should have read the descriptions and reviews more carefully. On return, after checking the listing, it was perfectly clear. Note: If you want an Inn experience, the converted barn seems to be the place to stay. On the positive, the room was quiet, the beds comfortable and everything was clear although very well worn. "South Shire is a quaint Victorian Inn on Elm Street within walking distance to the center of Bennington, VT. The Inn has a family feel and elegance. We traveled as a couple. It was easy to get to sites and enjoy fine restaurants. The Inn is in keeping with the feel of strength of the Bennington community, as a place for artists, musicians, and people's expression generally to thrive. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend South Shire."

"The room was fine, the carpet was old and a bit musty. The fridge was helpful to have, and we used the coffee maker, would have preferred a Keurig. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioner worked fine. The furniture was nice, we liked the two separate bathroom sinks. Over a pleasant stay."
