Copeland District Travel Guide

England

A view of Wast Water in the Lake District - England’s deepest lake. The back drop of magnificent mountains including England’s highest peak - the infamous Scaffel Pike.
After traveling for an hour from our hotel hoping that we would not miss the sunset we arrived at our destination and quickly setup and waited for the sun to disappear to the righthand side of the rolling hills in the Lake District and when it did we started shooting long exposures of around 60 seconds so that it would smooth the water out and get movement in the dark moody sky above and finally after about 10 minutes the sun hit the hills in the distance and what a site it was
Quite a view over this Roman settlement harbour of Ravenglass in Cumbria. Formerly known as Glannoventa.

Wast Water on a glorious late September day. We walked here from nearby Santon Bridge, about 3 mile way. This is the bottom end of the lake, near Nether Wasdale.
A Cumbrian castle built on original Roman foundations in Ravenglass overlooking the River Esk. Privately owned by the Pennington family for over 800 years it has a beautiful interior with a magnificent library, and most notably Himalayan Gardens. The gardens thrive because apparently the microclimate here from the hillside and coastal atmosphere make it the equivalent of being at 11,000ft altitude in the Himalaya.
