"We have stayed at Clontarf Castle several times, usually the day or two before we fly home to the USA, since it is near the Dublin airport. The Clontarf neighborhood is a lovely part of Dublin, with good transit downtown. It is also near many interesting places that are within about an hour's drive or less north of Dublin, such as Malahide Castle and town, the Newgrange prehistoric passage tombs (get tickets in advance), and the Monasterboices monastic site with its famous high crosses. Clontarf castle itself is charming, with a lot of history and things to explore, such as the eclectic artwork. The staff are always very helpful. The last time that we stayed was for a major anniversary and the staff sent us a bottle of wine, which was lovely. The breakfasts are amazing, with many options including luxury touches like honey dripped directly from a honeycomb. We really like the Knight's bar for a relaxed dinner as well."
