Folkingham House of Correction ... In the early 19th century Folkingham was part of Quarter Sessions, the higher court that dispensed justice for the area, which explains why a House of Correction, or minor prison, was built. It was constructed on the site of Folkingham Castle. The surviving Grade II* listed buildings consist of the original 19th-century governor's house and gateway, dating from 1808 and 1825.It was closed in 1878 but was taken over in about 1980 by the Landmark Trust, an organisation that converts unusual and neglected British buildings into holiday accommodation with modern amenities. They transformed the Gateway into a holiday home.#architecture

Greenfields Lane, Folkingham This lane is a public right of way from Folkingham to the site of the old Medieval village of West Laughton. It is reasonably well surfaced with stone rubble with a thin overlying covering of earth. Not too many muddy areas so an easy walk or cycle ride.

Staff very welcoming on arrival. Room clean. Restaurant staff were lovely and we could see the kitchen staff were very busy and efficient. Breakfast had a good choice of hot and cold food. Overall a lovely stay and we would stay again.

Will stay here again. No parking outside the property, but there is a car park which is to pay for. Everything you need in the apartment. Only downside was that there was a rancid smell coming from the kitchen , which made you feel sick. So sprayed perfume all over it. Wasn't enough forks to feed ...
