We had a great 3 day stay. The room was very clean and our two dogs really enjoyed the dog park. The owner and staff were also very nice. Would definitely stay again if we are ever in the area again.
This is a gem of a mom and pop hotel. Def no frills, but the shower was hot, the pillows and mattresses were comfortable and the coffee was plentiful.
This place is like a well mom and pop from 40 years ago, but open today and properly managed.
The man at the desk was also the owner.
We’ll be back!
Under new ownership since late 2025, but new owners are very personable and are keeping up earlier high standards. For pet owners, the motel’s pet-friendliness is a big plus. Convenient short drives to Great Sand Dunes NP, Ft Garland Museum & Cultural Center (a wonderful must visit), San Luis (oldest town in CO). One hour drives to Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in Antonito, Joyful Journey hot springs spa in Moffat (another must visit), and the UFO Watchtower (a crazy roadside attraction only found in America!)
Vernon and April were helpful and the room was nice. Rocking chair in room was really comfy. Hot water from fixtures was immediate. Temp outside was in the 20's inside the room was toasty.
Simple but nice. Effort was made to add decorator touches and make rooms comfortable. Large rooms with ample closet, refrigerator. Easy check in

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The Lodge is under new ownership, and I was told they’re gradually improving things. However, I can only review the experience we had. While it is rustic and homey, we had some issues during our stay.
+ The check in/out process was very easy.
+ When our room only had 2 bath towels, the staff responded very quickly to get us 2 more.
- The AC in our room was broken.
- The ice machine was broken.
- There was a crack/hole in the bathroom floor.
- The tub was dirty and needed to be scrubbed.
- There were raccoons digging though the trash cans outside of our room.
Exceedingly clean accommodations. Very friendly staff. Great choice. We travel with our two dogs and the facilities are very well concieved for people traveling wiht their dogs.
Strongly recommend.
It was an okay room, could have been a bit cleaner. Shower was a little iffy but had hot water. No bells and whistles but wasn't expecting much since it is in such a small town.

We got there about 730pm it was dark and rang the doorbell and waited awhile then the owner came. He was very nice. The room was dated but clean and decorated cute. There was plenty of hot water for the 3 of us. There are no amenities and you could not adjust the temp of your room and could hear outside clearly was the only downfall but for 1 night stay passing thru it was fine. There was not many other choices in such a small town.
