"The Dietzel is a wonderful, retro, getaway motel in Fredericksburg, Texas. It's a writer's delight: actual room keys, wonderful view out the window, built-in drawers - this is the place to stay to be inspired to write stories about a different time in American travel! JJ was super nice at check-in and check-out, and they do offer modern amenities like a mini-fridge in the room and shampoo and lotion (and even shave cream!) in the bathroom.
Yes, there are some dips and "potholes" in the gravel and caliche driveway, but this is central Texas, and if you've ever driven on a dirt road in your life, this is nothing. The a/c unit can be loud for those with sensitive hearing, but the room and motel are great and something that reminds you of the travel stories your grandparents might have experienced. Plus the view from the bed was so relaxing - not a parking lot or buildings, just real trees and nature - we saw at least one red bird and a deer! Being inspired and enjoying the room was totally worth the stay!"
