I come from decades of skilled customer service, and majority friendliness amongst staff should be standard procedure. Not difficult. Very very simple, actually. This skill takes training by management. No, I am not going to be blocked from going down the hallway to my expensive room, by two maids carts haphazardly blocking the hallway. This was what I experienced, though, and twice during my one night stay. No, I am not going to clean & bus my own table - when I see staff standing around ignoring what should be cleaning & clearing the tables. Anything else I can do for your establishment, as a guest, paying an inflated price for my hotel room?"
