We splurged on a night here and it was definitely a highlight experience on our Japan trip. We used the public onsen on both days because the men and women alternate use of the 2 public onsens. One is a secluded, natural hot spring with lush greenery and a waterfall. the other is a modern infinity pool with awesome views. Each bath has a shower area and dressing area with luxe cleansers and lotions (at least for the ladies!). The rooms are beautifully appointed with comfortable beds and futons and the private balcony tubs are amazing too! Definitely arrive right at check in and stay until check out to maximize your experience. Be sure to stroll through the garden after dark - with the lighting it is magical. We also did the Lobster/abalone kaiseiki dinner. It was amazing, though perhaps for pickier eaters it's a bit of a waste as there is a lot of food including a magnificent sashimi platter. The morning buffet is unbelievable as well. Take note of shuttle hours as we missed the last shuttle to the hotel and finding the right bus was a bit difficult.

The staff is very nice! Breakfast buffet was great. Onsen pools is not as clean as expected. The dinner experience is not very good, lobster is over cooked! fruit salad should be fresh cut and not from a ready made bag! for a 4 stars as advertised needs to improve the basis. Sorry!

We arrived last Friday, and it was raining heavily. We waited for a taxi for 15 minutes at the train station and got completely soaked. When I arrived at the hotel with my two kids around 12:45 PM, we were told we had to wait outside until 3 PM. I begged them to let us use the bathroom to change the kids' clothes since they were cold and shaking, but the manager still refused to let us into the hotel. I can’t believe that a five-star hotel would refuse to let their guests wait inside or use the bathroom before check-in. If this had happened in the USA, I would have sued them. I will definitely file a complaint with the Cabinet Office in Japan. That night, both of my kids came down with a fever. I booked a room with two beds and two futons, but they only gave me a room with one futon. I spent 35 minutes arguing about this, but for some reason, they did not agree. Because of the language barrier, the front desk had a hard time understanding English."

The staff is unwelcoming and has poor customer relations. Their English is very limited and makes for very difficult communication. Our check-in experience was awful, staff was slow and unacomadating to our needs..we were treated disrespectfully and felt very unwelcome. They were rude and have no manners towards paying customers. We were three guests and room had amenities for only two persons. I had to call to request the additional towels, etc. The food at the breakfast bufet was less than desirable. The onsen area needs better maintenance--the baths show signs of wear and rust. The shuttle service ends very early and the location of the hotel is not very accessible to walk up and down. Overall, I would say the 5 star rating is very misleading. This is NOT a 5 star hotel in any way.
