  • On 14 April 2016, a massive earthquake (magnitude 6.2) struck Kumamoto prefecture and damaged numerous structures of the Kumamoto Castle complex including the main castle. Routes and pathways were still open and available for visitors. During our visit, efforts for reconstruction of Kumamoto castle were under way as can be seen in the background of this photo. The Uto Yagura turret (foreground), on the other hand, survived the quake and remains intact.

Had a very pleasant stay. They provide Stickers for small tattoos you might have. The spa/ sentimental was really refreshing after travelling. The facilities were also very clean and the interior was well lit and furnished in a bright tone, which made everything fell very cozy and clean. Staff was very nice and polite. The surrounding area is also very convient, super close to a big modern mall “Sakura”. Had a very pleasant stay, would definitely visit again.

A good experience

The location is really good which is just beside the tram stop and in the centre of the shopping district. Free drinks are provided in a cozy public area. Breakfast is served with Japanese and Western-style food.

Great centralized location. Ultra clean hotel with great amenities and features. I would say the main issues were having only 3 elevators hardly met the demands of the people. There more than a few times where I waited over 3 minutes for an elevator and a few times I had to wait for the next elevator. Also they need a few more wash machine and dryer. I stood in line for the next washing machine for over 2 hours. Shin-shigai over all needs a makeover. It looks dirty, dark and unsafe, but the hotel itself is beautiful inside.

The room is tiny but well thought out and you don’t spend much time in the room anyways! The amazing breakfast buffet more than makes up for it! The breakfast had such a huge selection-even after 5 days, it was never boring. The only thing I would add is more fruit!

Nice hotel. The stay was very good. Room was comfortable though a bit small. Location of hotel was excellent! Credit to the hotel staff who helped me to find my personal pillow and sent it to my next hotel in Nagasaki. Thank you very much!

Comfortable stay in this clean hotel that serves great Kumamoto-style buffet breakfast. However, the bathroom vanity (sink and mirror) is outside the toilet, facing the twin beds. No on-site parking but you can easily park at the underground carpark that’s just a traffic light away from the hotel at a reasonable rate.
