I booked the Novotel months ago, this was changed to the Mercure but not by me weeks ago. I received the customary welcome email 24 hours before from the Mercure.
I arrived at my hotel and wasn’t able to gain entry - eventually someone arrived to say I’d be transferred to The Novotel.
On arrival at The Novotel I explained the position and quite frankly the reception staff weren’t interested - no comment and no apology.
I’ts been a while since I stayed at a Novotel and this I think may be the last.
No parking availability other than £15 for overnight in their underground which is far too much and in no way reflects the price and standard of the hotel.
Beds and pillows uncomfortable, room clean as was hotel and well appointed and positioned tbh.
Good, central location. Safe & quiet. Easy check in & out. Room a good size & nicely appointed. Comfortable bed. Good shower. Good value.

Never Again
Arriving at 9.30, the Short walk from the Rail Station was longer than short as i explained over the phone i was on crutches. The chap on reception was far from helpful. Bar closes at 10 we were informed. We checked into to a non disabled room as it was the only room available. The beds were far to high, a few more inches and you need a ladder to get in. Pillows were very hard, air con was stuck on warm and we didnt get our alarm call at 10am. Not impressed, never again.
Great:
Big room and immaculately clean
Huge comfy bed
Everything you need in your room (iron, fridge, small seating area
Bar area / reception really funky and comfortable despite covid restrictions
Lovely friendly service
Could improve:
Our room wasn't ready and wouldnt be fir an hour due to covid restrictions on housekeeping. We were given the option of a basement room straight away...made aware it had no windows....we took that option and the room was great...however the lack of window made it a bit oppressive. We would have preferred to have been made aware there might be a delay with rooms prior to check in and we would have factored this in to our plans.
However....we totally understand the circumstances and the staff couldn't have been nicer about it.
No tea cups in the room but we asked for some on the WhatsApp service and they delivered these within 20 mins (should be in room though)
Summary- would definitely stay again butcwill avoid basement room
No assigned check in area. Had to ask at the bar about checking in. Lady who checked us In gave us the room number but didn’t direct us as to how get to the rooms. We had a lower ground floor room very small. No natural light. Too hot even when air conditioning was turned down. Bed was a bit to hard. The smoke alarm was positioned in the middle of the room above the bed so the green light flashing every few seconds in the dark wasn’t great when trying to sleep. Although the room was small it was clean and had everything you need for an overnight stay. A bit disappointed as we have stayed here before it changed to The Mecure and really liked it which was why we booked this trip.
Check in was fine and quick, and the privilege room was very nicely laid out, but unfortunately the hotel did not have hot water available due to a broken/turned off boiler. The water was just lukewarm and reception could not fix this until morning as it needed to heat up over night. This was very frustrating after being at a sweaty gig when all I wanted to do was get clean. Despite a complaint the manager has still not contacted me to raise this issue.
Excellent value. Room was good and breakfast of a good standard.

Ok for a one night
Good hotel for business but the cleanliness was not really up to standard. Dirty bathroom and stained bedding. Breakfast was good and parking was a 5min wall so acceptable for business but wouldn’t necessarily got for social or family trips. Felt a bit small and cramped.
Perfect hotel. as someone said in comments about bathrooms walls could be washed/scrubbed with bleach as you can see some dirt on wall tiles. Despite that perfect.
Great location. However there was no menu for breakfast in bed ascstayed in the info. Thete were no milk and the shower needed a manual it seemed complicated at first.
Booked a standard room expecting a double or king size bed and got 2 singles which was rather funny. Had tea at the hotel which cost £45 for what I got it wasn't value for money. Overall a nice hotel if you need to stay for the night or 2 but thin walls / not very private and quite expensive meant I wouldn't recommend for a long stay. Perfect for business or the nearby first direct arena.
