"We liked the old fashioned grandeur of the place although the halls and doors could probably do with a spruce up. The room was quite large, clean and comfortable with tea and biscuits. The restaurant and bar looked quite nice but we didn’t use them. We thought the breakfast was a bit expensive at almost £40 for two so got some half price locally. We also had to pay £10 for parking nearby. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful though. All in all we had a nice stay."
"We stayed at The Cottage in The Wood for one night during a mini-tour of the UK. The hotel is unique, an amazing location and the room we had was generous and well appointed with lovely touches. We enjoyed the food very much - high quality menu, beautifully presented (including the excellent breakfast). It should be noted that whilst Expedia promotes the hotel as pet friendly - which it is from an accommodation point of view with a lovely blanket and other elements provided - unfortunately the main hotel building (restaurant, bar) is strictly 'no pets.' We were offered the chance to leave our dog in the room whilst eating, or to eat outdoors in a covered and heated patio space which we did (and it was very nice but thankfully the weather wasn't too cold). So you just need to decide if that is for you. The staff bent over backwards to look after us (and our dog) but rules are adhered to, which is fair enough if you know. But thanks to all the hotel staff for a lovely stay and we will return anytime without our dog, and in the summer with her!"
"The rooms were spacious, clean and well maintained; dinner and Sunday lunch were excellent; breakfast was spectacular. All the staff were efficient and friendly. Thank you."
"An old building with historic interest situated in a town with many interesting old building which is well worth a walk around.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Evening meals and Sunday carvery were tasty and specials were explained.
A thing to note is that there is no lift so mobility needs to be good to walk up stairs which was not a problem for us.
Enjoyed our stay here and will be back next year as still much more to explore in the ares"
"Our room was clean, spacious the bed was large and very comfortable, our room had great views and whilst we had a small problem with a sticky room door, we reported it and it was dealt with very promptly. We had chosen the hotel due to its location near the Theatre as it was a very short walk. There are plentiful places to eat and coffee shops etc nearby, there is a reasonable sized car park but I imagine there might be a premium on places at the height of the season, we stopped two nights midweek at the end of September. Breakfast was self service, the hot food was refreshed regularly and was plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel."
