"Very clean property. Hotel looks a bit tired and maybe could do with a makeover. Food very expensive for what you receive. We stayed in the lodge while it was very clean the shower was not fit for purpose, no pressure and if you are over 5foot8 impossible to get under shower head. The lodge rooms are very close together while it is not the property itself fault the doors banging shut in the lodge building was extremely loud. This was going on most of night and early mornings. We also had an incident where someone managed to get a key to our room and walk in while we were there. Very strange. "
"We will be contacting the hotel directly. Starting with the positives, the location is excellent - step out the door and you are directly in the city centre.
I simply cannot comment on the staff - we only met them at check-in. They were not particularly friendly, very much “do it yourself” type of attitude. They weren’t rude by any stretch, but there wasn’t a sense of willingness to help.
The building is very old and outdated, which could add to the charm but when you have bobbling carpets, sloping floors and peeling/ stained photographs, you see that no effort has been made to tap into this.
Now we come to the cleanliness of the property. Worst I’ve ever seen. I’m only glad that we didn’t bring our children here as my daughter has a dust allergy. From the fire place in the foyer to the desk in the room, to the ridges in the bathroom - there was thick dust! It was disgusting. Some of the towels had stains which is unnecessary! On the first night, someone had clearly been eating a Sandwick in the foyer and had left crumbs on the desk. Those remained there until we checked out at 11pm on two days later. There was a general lack of attention to detail of the most basic forms across the board. When we checked out, there was no member of staff to be seen.
The bed was comfy enough and the bedding clean, but that’s where it ended.
I can safely say that we will not be staying in this property again but hope management take the feedback on board for future guests."
"A fantastic hotel in a great location for visiting Inverness, riverside and scenic, lovely breakfast and friendly staff, super clean and a great feel."
"Incredibly attentive staff, lovely breakfast. Lounges and area were very relaxing. Room was clean and comfortable. Manager recommended a restaurant for dinner which was fantastic."
"The room was very comfortable and clean with all the amenities you needed for your stay. We had a twin bed room and the beds were comfortable with extra blankets and pillows in the room. The bathroom was nice with a towel warmer and soft towels. My only complaint, but this is common throughout, no wash cloth...
The front desk staff were very friendly and professional, we checked in quickly and given our room key. All of the staff we met were very friendly. The breakfast was very good with a nice selection of cold items as well hot menu items. I really appreciated the little pot of coffee you got at your table instead of having to go to the buffet to get more.
The bar was nice, it was not as "cozy" as others we stayed in during our trip."
"We really enjoyed our stay this weekend at The Royal Highland. Rooms are comfy, clean & well equipped. Staff are polite & helpful. We’d stay here again. "
"I have stayed many times at this hotel and this will probably be the last time.
I paid good money for a totally sleepless night and a very basic breakfast.
When booking, I specifically asked for a room at the front of the hotel. I do so regularly, as I know from past experience that rooms, particularly the low even numbers can be noisy, so I was disappointed when arrived and was told that I was allocated Room 102. I told reception that I had bad memories of room 102 as I had stayed there in the past and it is the noisiest room in the hotel; which was why I had requested a room at the front. Reception was very unhelpful, completely unsympathetic and simply said there was nothing they could do.
Room 102 lived up to my expectations, with unbearable loud noises from extractor fans and other machinery operating not far from the room window. I couldn't do any work because concentrating was impossible. I am a light sleeper - hence my request which was made when booking - and I couldn't get any sleep because of the constant racket from outside, which went on throughout the entire night.
Breakfast next morning was a lacklustre affair. No fruit salad, no fresh fruit, no fried eggs on offer and the other breakfast items were fewer than is usually available and they were very slow to be replenished when they ran down.
Check in the night before had been painfully slow and staff on reception were not helpful. I wouldn't want to go through this again and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
