Great hotel right in the heart of Portobello Road

Lovely bustling hotel with friendly and helpful staff that go above and beyond to make you feel very welcome. We came here for yheit James Bond dining experience,which was so much better than we could have imagined. We will definately be staying here again and i can highly recommend this hotel as a great place to stay.

I loved it!

Wonderful location to stay (just in Portobello Road) and relax after a day in the big London. Super gentle staff and very cute rooms. Good position to take buses and the underground as well. If I come back to London, I’ll surely return to the Distillery!

Great find

Cute boutique hotel in a great area. We were here for two nights during the week, and it was quiet and charming. They provided a few free cocktails from their distillery downstairs. The staff were excellent, and the room was clean and tidy. There is great dining, shopping, and transportation options nearby. I would recommend this place and stay here again.

What a gem

Such a fun spot! The location is perfect, and the small touches made it feel so special. I'm not a big drinker, but love the setup for a G&T on a warm day, and the record player was great! Room was small but had all the comforts, and I loved the bathroom design! Would absolutely stay again if I am in the area.

Lovely staff. Excellent location. There are steep stairs, and it's in an old building above a bar, so yes it's loud. I packed ear plugs and they did the trick. Would definitely stay here again.

Excellent stay, locations great and bar was brilliant. Room size as expected but most definitely the bed was not a suitable size. Staff were brilliant and would visit again, just a different bed size requested. Late night drinking was a lot of fun and great selection of drinks

Super cool stay!

One of the coolest hotels I've stayed in! Nice bed and shower, the room included beer and gin, and also a vinyl plater. Super cool! The receptionist and cleaning lady was also super nice. Excellent location, the view from the room overlooked Portobello Road and there was just a minute walk to any food you'd like in the area. Short walk from the tube Station. Very happy!

For Gin lovers...

The geographic situation is perfect in the center of Portobello market. The view from the room makes you feel a part of it. The room itself was cosy with a sixties feeling and the bed was comfortable. There was even a basket with citruses and the ingredients to add to a glass of Gin if you so wished...On the downside, the corridor and stairs to get there were very dark and could do with a sorrow clean and brightening up...

The room was amazing - great decor, comfy bed, effective blackout curtains - just what we needed for a great night’s sleep. Unfortunately the morning after was not so great - no hot water in the shower, milk in the mini fridge was off and coffee press squirted everywhere when plunged! Such a shame as, prior to that, we loved it.

Lovely Room

Enjoyed the location and atmosphere of this small hotel. With only three rooms available, I was concerned about customer service not being a top priority of the restaurant staff, but we were pleasantly surprised with their attentiveness. Room was small and there were quite a few stairs to climb to get there but we knew all this ahead of time and were prepared. Lovely room and quiet for our stay. Of course it was winter and we didn’t need the window open for cool air so we didn’t hear any of the street noise. Loved the location right on Portabello Road which made it great for shopping!

No door handle !!

Nice area to stay in. However the room was small and the double bed was small. The sink was the smallest I've ever seen and couldn't be used without getting water everywhere . There was no door handle on the outside - just polyfiller.So it didn't always swing shut !!! and when taken to the room this wasn't even pointed out !!

Definitely not my favorite boutique size hotel I’ve stayed in. Price was one of the best I found in the area, but you get what you pay for. Walls are thin and can hear people walking around on creaky floors. Hallways smell like an old bar, because you’re basically staying above an old bar. No separate entrance for hotel guests so returning in the evenings the bouncer for the bar would question us. Very little interaction with the “concierge” who seemed annoyed and busy when trying to check in. The hotel check in is a tiny desk right off the street by the bar entrance so not very welcoming at all. All rooms are walk ups so if you have heavy bags be prepared to carry them up a few flights. The room itself was okay, a little dirty looking, and cramped. Best thing about the room was the shower which was hot, good water pressure, nice size and luxurious toiletries. Location is nice for exploring Notting Hill and Portobello Road Market and shops, but not super convenient to other areas unless you are comfortable navigating the bus lines. Notting Hill Gate underground was about a 10-15 minute walk away, not too bad. There’s one closer station but didn’t use it as much for the places we wanted to go. Overall I’d probably not stay again unless everything else nearby was extremely out of price range.

The hotel consists of 3 bedrooms on the 3rd floor of a bar, which you access through steep stairs, no lift.(weird smell on the staircase) Bedroom size was ok, so was the bathroom (sink is ridiculously small) no space to leave your toiletries. Also no hairdryer. There's an exit sign over the door of the room that irradiates a green light that's very annoying (had to cover it with a towel so I could sleep) Situated on lovely portobello Rd, lots of restaurants to go to, but very noisy at night. The hotel has no front desk or concierge so there's no one to help you out. Staff working in the pub were kind but have no clue how to help passengers from the hotel. It's ok if you think of it more as an hostel than a hotel.

Not worth it.

We knew this was a small place that is primarily a pub, however the room I selected (corner, being larger) was not honored and I had the impression the rooms were on the 2nd floor not 3rd. 2 nasty, tall flights of stairs. No lift! There is one in the building but its being used as a storage closet. Room 1 was tiny. Bathroom sink was hardly useful as it was so small and the toilet seat grabs your thigh and I have a huge bruise because of it. One light fixture was out in the bathroom. The tiles on the bathroom floor were pretty but not very clean. Oh, and the walls are VERY thin!! Based on this interaction we will never try any of these small, unique hotels ever again. This property does not answer their messages here either.

We really enjoyed this place for the convenience and location and hidden gem vibe. That said definitely not for everyone. The bed might have been the most uncomfortable hotel bed I have ever stayed on and because of it’s boutique nature twice the staff accidentally locked us out of the building. That said the location is great, the bathroom was lovely and it’s all about the location, which is perfect.

Really lovely pub & great room with view of Portobello Road. Staff all very friendly. My only issue was the mattress, which was like lying on bare springs. New mattress required please 🙏 Overall though, a great place to stay.

The location is great, and the bars in the place are fun with good staff. Mattress was uncomfortable, the springs in your back, and the bathroom sink was very small. Most disappointing was that we couldn’t check-in as planned. Following is the email sent to the general manager (Ash), who apparently didn’t feel it was worth replying to: “The situation is that we flew into Heathrow this morning from the US, having booked two nights at The Distillery. This was specifically so that we could come straight to The Distillery from the airport to shower, make calls etc. As you can see from the email trail below I contacted The Distillery to confirm that this would be OK and was told that it was fine, and someone would be here to meet us. I also asked for a phone number that we could call in case of any problems, but the response was just to say that someone would be here. As everyone knows, flights can be late, and security lines in airports can be slow. The flight was late, and security was very slow, so we were later arriving than I originally hoped. Nobody was here to meet us, and when I tried to call the number was never answered. Again, as you can see from the emails below, no-one ever said that we could be met met up to a certain time, but after that nobody would be here. So the result is that we wasted the price of one night’s stay, and were not able to freshen-up and make calls from our room this morning as planned. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts"
