The property photos — many items shown are old, broken, or completely unusable. There was no outdoor lighting, and the glasses were dusty and poorly maintained. "What an incredible stay for us. First time to a ryokan (i.e., traditional Japanese inn w/ onsen). What an experience! Hotel is somewhat confusing to navigate, but that is part of the adventure. The public onsen was incredible (note: they swap the male and female sides, so pay ATTENTION!). The room we stayed in was "traditional" in that we had five futons atop tatami. Haven't selpt that well in a long time! The in-room onsen was a bit old school (basically a deep tub), but still oh so magical....

"The hotel is in a great location overlooking a sandy beach and I think all of the rooms have this beautiful view. The staff are great and very helpful. There are a couple of negatives about it for me. The hotel rooms felt a bit dated compared to everywhere else we stayed. The pool was closed for the whole time we were there. Probably the most frustrating was that between 3pm and 6 there is no way to get anything to eat. After that the restaurants are v limited, a very expensive french restaurant and Very expensive japanese restaurant. It is a short trip on the train to Kawsu where there are more options or a small beach shack serving local food during the day."

"We loved our authentic Japanese vacation stay. Fireworks were a surprise we had not expected. Buffet had a large variety of choices although I am allergic to shrimp and do t like seafood so it limited me. I was still able to find enough to eat each day. Onsen was a new experience for us being Canadian but now we love it and will miss this relaxing ritual."
