This is not your chain hotel. It is on a corner 50 meters from the most interesting building in the Amazon, the Manous Opera House. The hotel is in a solid building that was previously a rubber museum. When you enter the hotel you immediately feel that you are part of the local community. We arrived at 9:30 AM from the ship which is at a walkable distance. The reception manager welcomed us and our luggage even though the room was not ready yet. He offered us the breakfast buffet and was very kind in every respect. The hotel offers breakfast and afternoon tea with all sorts of local delicacies and is popular for birthdays and church and opera goers. On leaving for the airport the next day we were again treated extremely well being allowed very late checkout without charge. The hotel general manager was always present and very kind and helpful. What this hotel lacks in luxury it makes up in friendly warmth and local hospitality. And the location is great with good regional restaurants, and historical buildings, squares, and galleries nearby. The hotel is named after the rubber tree which was the boom of the area in the last century. While the industry faded and moved to Asia, the hotel remains a solid place to stay for a visit when you are in the Amazon.
