"This hotel was truly wonderful. The rooms were clean, and the staff was both amazing and incredibly helpful. I also thoroughly enjoyed exploring the hiking trails that bordered the river."

"The room was clean, the staff was friendly and the beds were firm, but comfortable. The hotel was conveniently located in close proximity to Nasushiobara Station, and the bus stops near the West Exit."

"I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff are so friendly and helpful, making for a lovely stay. The rooms are Japanese style, very comfortable and clean. It is 1 minute from the beautiful Shinkyo Bridge and the edge of the national park. Walking distance to plenty of restaurants and cafes."

"I stayed only for one night but the hotel was excellent, staff were helpful, spacious Japanese style room. A bit of walk from the Kinugawa Onsen Station but it is a nice walk. I will stay again if I am in the area again."

"Our family enjoyed staying in the quiet countryside. The reservation includes a breakfast and dinner buffer, which was delicious. They also have complimentary drinks and snacks from 3 to 6pm. The hot springs felt relaxing as well. The hotel is isolated, and the nearest convenient store is a 10 minute walk away, but the trees and mountains really make you feel immersed in nature. Great reset from the hustle and bustle of city life."

"The staff was very helpful and the property was gorgeous. For families who may not be familiar with this style of hotel, be aware that bathing facilities are either in a public onsen or you can rent a private onsen for 45 minutes."

"Excellent food, convenient location, and attentive staff; we thoroughly enjoyed our 3-night stay at this century-old inn!
We chose Joshuya for an authentic ryokan experience. Stay here for a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere, home-style Japanese meals shared with guests, excellent public hot spring, and a location within walking distance of major historical sites and Tobu Nikko Station. If you want conventional beds, private bathrooms, or the flexibility to come and go whenever you please, look...

"It is a classic hotel but the annex building is fully renovated and beautiful. The room was comfortable with nice amenities. It was so calm and peaceful. I loved the tea set they provided and enjoyed the room overlooking the garden outside. Had very comfortable beds. Staff was nice and welcoming. Breakfast was nice too. The only downside was lack of dinner options in the area. We did a room service one night and had their famous curry… which was alright but expensive. We also had a meal at Meiji no Yakata nearby which was great. I think most restaurants were closed for dinner on weekdays though. There was a really good yuba place for lunch closed to the hotel."
"We had a very comfortable stay. The only downside was that our room was on the second floor, and we didn’t realize there was no elevator. Carrying our suitcases up and down the stairs was quite difficult."
"This is a terrific basic hotel with very clean and stylish Western-style rooms (albeit with the small Japanese beds) and public spaces at reasonable rates. Would definitely stay here again.
It is a bit out of the way from central Nikko (up a hill from the train stations, and a bit too far on rural roads to be truly walkable), but cabs are cheap and the hotel runs a free shuttle to the stations in the morning and late afternoon. Also there is no restaurant on-site. However, there’s free tea/coffee/miso soup in the lobby, basic food items for sale at the front desk, and a good breakfast truck (with Western breakfast items and coffee) comes by from 7-10 am."
"Unfortunately this property did not meet expectations and was grossly overpriced. The Japanese style room was very dated but a nice size. Good AC. The food was great and there were a lot of options. The property needed to be cleaned and updated. The area outside of the property is shocking. It is filled with abandoned buildings that are various states of disrepair. It felt unsafe. Transportation wasn’t great. I booked the bus- which is said to be an amenity- only to learn we had to pay getting off. Good thing I had cash. People were nice but I’d never go back."
"The location was great
Install translate before you go
Ask for a bus timetable and the free tickets you get as part of your stay
Uber does not work out near Nasu, no uber eats or car rides
Install go taxi, it's there uber equivalent
Food is scarce around the hotel so plan ahead and get food from the local shops, family marts are great, 7elevens are ok to
If you eat at the buffet restaurant at the hotel you need to book it as part of the hotel booking.
We did not and it cost me $214 (aud) for 2 adults and 1 child, we didn't know this ahead of time.
The hot springs / baths are a no cloths zone, kids 6 and older and men and woman are just all in the same water together naked, nothing against there culture it just wasn't for me.
There are claw machines absolutely everywhere in Japan so if your taking kids be sure to always have some coins on you, they range for 100¥ to 500¥
Nasu highlands park was amazing
Nasu safari park was good, very small but pretty cool getting up so close with so many animals."
