  • #TroveOn Yes, Monteriggioni just might be the quintessential walled medieval village in Tuscany. It's small enough to perhaps be called "cute" but you won't catch me using this term. Monteriggioni began as a border fortress built on a round hill by Sienna against the Florentines. It is famous for the intact defensive structure that held up against repeated Florentine attacks in the 11th century; its 10 meter high walls and 14 towers can still be seen for miles around. Monteriggioni has been featured in movies as a typical medieval village. The village is slightly elliptical in shape with two gates (a third has been plugged). The major gate tourists will use when coming from the parking lot, Porta Franca, owes its name to the Via Francigena--Monteriggione was a major stop on the pilgrimage trail from Cantebury to Rome. The Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Assunta will offer assistance with housing for modern pilgrims traveling the Francigena pilgrimage route. Monteriggioni was a sleepy village of farmers and sheep herders as late as the 1960's. Today it exists entirely for tourists and pilgrims. You'll find wine shops, a tasting room, restaurants and hotels in the small village. This is not neccessarily a disadvantage, although some times it's nice to see some locals puttering about once in a while. Where is Monteriggioni? Monteriggioni is located in the province of Siena, 14km to the northwest of Siena (54km from Florence). While it can be done as a day trip from Siena, you might be better off staying the night--Monteriggioni is much more evocative when the tourists leave late in the afternoon and you can sit in a courtyard sipping a glass of Chianti. Monteriggioni is surrounded by vineyards, and is known for its wine production.

Amazing hotel, with a fantastic food & wine experience and the service was 10/10 for both dinner and breakfast. And the view from the pool is amazing. The premises are very beautiful, extremely clean and the standard is overall very high, we will definitely come back.

This is the most amazing, tranquil, romantic property. To think that he bought it and renovated the whole place. The views are breathtaking. For sure have dinner at the property's restaurant. Fixed menu but all the vegetables and herbs are right out of his garden.

Veronica’s apartment was perfect for us this last week in Rome. There is plenty of space, good AC (which is necessary this time of year), and everything else the three of us needed. It would be great for two couples or a family of 4. Veronica was responsive and we were met at a convenient time for us with a smile, a bowl of fresh fruit and many recommendations on dining and the area. The location was very good for us, which is close to Spanish Steps and Borghese Gardens, with Trevi, Pantheon and other sites a short walk away. Plenty of dining and shopping are available in the neighborhood which was quiet and pleasant. We would stay here again.

This Villa was extraordinary and the # one thing that made it amazingly special was the kindness, graciousness, and warmth of all the team members, including, but not limited to Elissa, Francesca (5 star chef to us), Mattia, Masi, our lovely chambermaid, and the groundskeeper. A bonus was the owner and his partner visiting with us during our 4 course dinner one night, so gracious and lovely. There are not enough words to describe the uniqueness and simplicity of this property. It was truly serene, and everything I had ever imagined of what Tuscany would be like. Down to earth luxury. Bellisimo! We are so grateful to have experienced this.

Relais la Costa – Dimora Storica is truly a gem. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome with warm and attentive customer service. The atmosphere is peaceful and full of character, with stunning historic details throughout the property. Our room was spacious, elegant, and immaculately clean — complete with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The breakfast was exceptional, with a wide variety of fresh, local options and perfect coffee each morning. We also enjoyed the beautiful spa, which offered a relaxing escape after days of exploring. Room was underwhelming compared to the ad

Airconditioning was not working and only present in one of the rooms. Fridge was broken. Bed was old and uncomfortable. For the price, the room was really underwhelming. All the additional services (restaurant, spa, etc.) were overpriced. Terrace with nice scenic view is presented as part of the room but is actually a common space.

900 year old gem!

What an amazing find...we stayed one night as we were working our way through Tuscany and the only disappointment was that we didn't stay longer. Rosaria and the team were welcoming and friendly, sharing their recommendations, and providing us with 5-star service. We enjoyed a refreshing time at the pool, taking in beautiful views of the valley and castles across the way, before we enjoyed the 4 course dinner, which they kindly provided vegetarian alternatives for two of us. It was truly superb and I can't wait for the opportunity to return!

It's hard to know where to begin to describe the magic of this place... the scenery, the history, the private spa, the heritage building, the in room jacuzzi.. its spectacular. But the real attraction of Relais La Costa is the chef Francesca. She is the lifeblood of the property and an absolute gem. She took us on an unforgettable culinary journey, for breakfast and dinner.. together with Diana her assistant they bring a warmth and hospitality to the place that few other places could come close to matching. We came for the property but would return for the food and warmth of its people. We can't thank you enough for such a wonderful, unforgettable experience.

Super dejligt hotel. Smukke gamle bygninger, dejlig have, meget roligt med få værelser og rigtig dejligt, at der ikke er børn på hotellet. Maden smagte dejligt. Eneste lille minus er de forholdsvis høje priser på minibar og frokostserveringer samt betaling for æg og juice til morgenmad - på mange lignende steder i samme prisklasse er det medregnet i værelsesprisen. Klar anbefaling til et par dages total ro i Toscana!

Beautiful hotel in the middle of Tuscany, great for relaxing. Dinner was very good. Cleanliness has room of improvement.

Relax assicurato in una location a dir poco splendida. Personale molto gentile e disponibile. Camera ampia e completa di comfort. Spa e piscina fruibili pulite e funzionali. Colazione ottima. Cena, piatti semplici ma gustosi.. A poca distanza da Monteriggioni da visitare assolutamente. Lo consiglio vivamente
