Absolutely fantastic. It's beautifully decorated and very clean. The staff were very warm and kind and made my stay very comfortable. My Japanese is very limited, but they took the time to carefully explain things for me at a level I could understand, including the food. If you can get out to Tsunan (and the train there was quite scenic, so do try), I really can't recommend it enough. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer.

We booked the Shibu Hotel as part of our plan to visit the nearby Snow Monkey Park. The quality of the hotel sevice was immediately evident when they provided a car to collect us from the station. They then drove us to the Snow Monkey Park and arranged to collect us when we had finished our visit. (In passing, the Snow Monkey Park is a 'must see' in the winter - spectacular views of dozens of macaque monkeys enjoying the hot thermal springs.) A bit of a culture change for the uninitiated, but this hotel is incredible. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are just lovely and served in a traditional environment that sets you up for the day. Wish we could have stayed for longer.

Great accommodation, very comfortable, decent choice of food from the vending machines, good breakfast. Perfect location... 3-minute walk from the cableway up to Kagura ski resort and the bus stop from the train station. They also offer discounted ski passes (cheaper than the ski resort) and Onsen passes. Highly recommend for those looking to ski at Kagura or explore the area.

There was a shuttle expecting us outside Yudanaka station, even though it's just a 6min walk to the hotel, but much appreciated when you're carrying bags. The place is beautiful and the private onsen: AMAZING (indoor and outdoor). Breakfast was a nice varied Buffet and loved the provided yukatas. Would definitely go back!

Was a most wonderful and relaxing experience. Only the fact that the indoor pool is closed for the whole month of June was disappointing.

Good choice if you are using the station as you literally walk out the hotel and into the station. Had everything you need and a good breakfast. Hard to be understood in English but we were in Japan!

The guy that looked after us, Satoshi, was really nice and very accommodating- he didn't speak english and we didnt speak Japanese but we got by. It was end of season and very quiet feeling like we had the place to ourselves. It was clean and immaculate. The breakfast was beautifully presented and ample. He met uas at the station and dropped us off as well as taking us elsewhere as and when needed. A really good experience and we would return.

This hotel was an incredible experience from the moment we arrived at the station where a staff member of the hotel was waiting to pick us up with a shuttle to the hotel without us even requesting that service. We were looking for a more traditional Japenese experience whilst also wanting to see the Snow Monkeys and this place did not disappoint! The hotel and staff were amazing and more than we could have expected. No question was too silly and no request was out of the question. Had a lovely stay at this Ryokan and would highly recommended it. Staff were kind & accomandating and made sure I felt welcome as a solo traveller. When they heard I intended to visit the monkey park the day I arrived, they especially arranged for transportation to take me there. The ryokan is english-friendly, especially my server for dinner who could hold a conversation. Food featured local ingredients and was excellent.
