"Check in and reception was non existent, there was no one on site to meet us, the entrance gate did not work and couldn't be locked. After waiting around for almost 45 minutes, we were forced to leave and find other accomodation. "

"Unbelievable spot of paradise just 10 minutes drive from Addo game park. This place is tranquil, beautiful and relaxing. From bird watching on the verandah, the spa, Freddie the pianist, Eduan and the rest of the team. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was divine."

"Hopewell is potentially a stupendous destination. Accommodation was excellent and luxurious. I feel they tried too hard to provide very fancy food that did not quite come off and this could be improved. They do not have the Big 5 but there is plenty of game to see and the Ranger is excellent. This is a fantastic location for a honeymoon or just a peaceful getaway in the Eastern Cape Bush."

"Exceptional property, design, and experience with top hospitality. The common areas are picture-perfect overlooking small waterholes frequently visited by playful warthogs, curious antelope, and brightly colored birds while you eat breakfast and lunch. "Bukela is a beautiful stay, facilities are great, friendly staff and our ranger (Sim) was very knowledgeable. Foodwise is really below average, just not good especially for a 5* resort. It felt like diner was prepared during the day and heated up in the evening, just not fresh. Breakfast was really poor. Only meal that was good was the lunch. No snacks during the day. Due to this matter i will not likely to visit Bukela again nor reconmend to anyone which is regretful as the staff and facilities...

"Fantastic place. Great home-cooked food cooked and served in a home-style atmosphere by the staff on a deck with amazing views. Would highly recommend as a base for exploring Addo. The property also has giraffes and sheep, both of which walked directly past our room!"

"Dilapidated facilities. Broken mirrors and glass panels. Had to request hot water to be turned on. We were the only guests or there may have been one other. The manager who I spoke on the phone to open the gate for us to come in and the night staff were pleasant. "

"It was a pleasant stay. Especially since it was a last-minute booking and the staff went out of their way to accommodate my son and I. Would love to have my own remote for the gate next time I pop in. But overall, a neat little gem. Value for money..."

"I arrived after dark and was happy to have a clean quiet room, and in hotel restaurant. The bar was quiet and not staffed, given this was off season this was staffed lighter than may have been during busier times of the year. Light renovations were ongoing to improve the building non impacted me. Wish I had arrived in day light to better know my surroundings. Great location near the beach and beach restaurant. Pool overlooking the ocean was nice, too windy to enjoy. The food at dinner and breakfast was good and room comfortable. Staff was great to coordinate airport pickup/dropoff. "

"This hotel is absolutely GORGEOUS! Every detail is solidly and thoughtfully constructed, from the chair rail lining the hallway to the sliding bathroom door. But form without function is of little value, and the staff brings the function in spades. Everyone we met went out of their way to answer our questions. Special shout out to Reginald at the concierge desk-he was kind, knowledgeable and generous with his time and helped us to book an amazing outing! He knows the area and the hotel inside out and made our stay even better. The property is located across from the beach-it’s an easy 5 minute walk to the water and the pier as well. There are many restaurants adjacent-don’t skip Hello Beach! for some truly delicious food. There are also several restaurants and bars within the property, and a gorgeous indoor pool plus a stunning outdoor pool as well. We will definitely be back!"
