Site 61 gave my partner and I a self-sufficient, comfortable, and clean basecamp to explore New Orleans. The hostel is close to any bus line, with a 20 min walk to the nearest trolley stop. The house is next to a busy highway, but inside is quiet and peaceful.
The service was mixed, due to only having one person on staff at a time. Our original room got double-booked, which led to an awkward and frustrating change when we first arrived, unlocking the door to someone already asleep. We ended up in a private double, small and simple, but perfect for our needs.
I enjoyed the backyard area and can imagine the space is great in the summer, with an outside bar. The community kitchen with double sinks and portable stove made cooking easy.
Site 61 strikes a nice balance between cleanliness, privacy, and group spaces, as far as hostels go. The service staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend!
