Located between La Californie and Gambetta, Les Baumettes is an affluent residential area within easy reach of both the beach and the attractions of central Nice. Spend time relaxing by the waterfront or exploring art collections at local museums.
Stroll along the southern edge of the neighbourhood to see the Foundation Lenval Children’s Hospital, recognisable by its tiled blue and orange glass. Walk toward the coast to find Nice’s most iconic spot, the Promenade des Anglais. Named for the British expatriates who built it in the early 19th century, this beachfront esplanade is a great place to get a sense of Nice and understand why it has held its status as a fashionable seaside resort for so long.
Continue from the promenade down to the sea to Florida Beach, a private stretch of sand attached to a restaurant of the same name. Come here for lunch before heading to the beach to laze on a blue-and-white sun lounger. Arrive later when the restaurant transforms into a fashionable bar, the perfect place for a drink or two.
Take a walk inland to reach the Nice Museum of Fine Arts. The city has an esteemed artistic heritage and this museum has one of the most varied art collections in Nice. See artworks from across Europe, from Rodin to Raoul Dufy, and ceramics by Pablo Picasso. Admire the museum building, a magnificent 19th-century colonnaded mansion built for a Ukrainian princess.
Keep walking inland for an additional 15 minutes to get to the stunning Saint Nicholas Cathedral, one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in Western Europe. Gaze up at its striking onion domes, four of which sit on top of tall spires.
To get to Les Baumettes from Nice Côte d’Azur airport, drive or take a taxi. The journey should take about 10 minutes. Local buses also run to Les Baumettes. This area is perfect for enjoying Nice’s temperate climate of warm summers and mild winters.
