"The resort offers a great location -
One hour from the airport, walking distance to the village and marina, right on the beautiful beach. Kids enjoyed making custom drinks at the bar, and loved the beach (no seaweed, clean white sand, amazing sunset every nights). Good food but limited selection. It’s a small cozy property with one pool and pretty much one restaurant. All inclusive was a way to go as everything at the resort is overpriced otherwise. Live music every night but not much else for other entertainment. Staff is excellent. We enjoyed our stay but for that money we could have stayed in a 5 star Mexican resort, but this beach was better than any Mexican beach we visited on both coasts. "
"The property is definitely run down. The rooms look like we traveled back to the 80’s. All of the purple, old, and run down decor made me feel as if I was in a rundown motel 6 back in the 80s. "
"I recently stayed at Occidental Tamarindo and overall found the experience underwhelming.
There were a few positives. The resort is close to the beach, making it easy to enjoy the ocean. The pool area was nice, and it was never difficult to find a chair. The resort is smaller, so it didn’t feel overly crowded. We also arrived a few hours early, and staff allowed us to store our bags and use the pool and restaurant while we waited, which was appreciated.
Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives. The food was bland and repetitive, with limited options at the buffet. The policy of only being able to book à la carte restaurants once every three days felt very restrictive.
The room had several issues. The shower flooded the bathroom floor due to overspray, and the drain did not work properly. Staff cleaned the water but never fixed the drain. On top of that, even with the AC on full power, the room stayed very hot and uncomfortable to sleep in.
Service around the pool was lacking. There’s no swim-up bar, and getting drinks meant waiting in line. No staff came around to take orders. The gym also needed maintenance, as several machines were not working properly.
Overall, I was not impressed. I would rate it 2 stars and would not return."
"Garbage all over the grounds. Food is basic buffet of fried foods. No restaurants no entertainment. Rooms were not stocked. We basically got two small bottles of water and a 40oz beer. Fighting with the maid for fresh towels a daily battle. Beautiful view has potential but not much at the moment."
