A quaint traditional Ryokan. Friendly staff and delicious traditional breakfast. Very well located for east walking to shops, restaurants and the snow slopes.
Location is good. Not far from the Moving Walk and most good public baths. Language may be a challenge if you do not speak/understand some basic Japanese. Breakfast is sometimes average and sometimes good. Dinner is amazing. Rooms get pretty cold in winter, and the small heater does the job but you need to rug up. Tatami mats in the rooms have sink spots, and needs replacement. Toiletries provided are minimal - only a bath towel, toothbrush and toothpaste. Shampoo, conditioner and soap are in the shared bathroom. Also note that the main toilet is a shared unisex toilet. Staff are friendly and helpful Noise can be a problem for some as sound insulation for older buildings here are non existent.

Convenient, friendly, and barebones
This is a great option for someone looking for a more affordable option in Nozawaonsen. The location is perfect, a 2-minute walk from most of the restaurants, a couple of onsens, and the path to the Hikage ski station. The rooms are spacious and typical of ryokans. We stayed just after a snow, and in the morning our room was 4 degrees (celsius) because we didn't run the kerosene heaters during the night (never advisable). The shared toilets weren't ideal (and smelled a bit, though the toilets themselves were nice), and we weren't comfortable sending our children there knowing that both men and women would be using them simultaneously. The breakfasts were delicious, and the couple who run the ryokan gracious and helpful with our needs as we were able to communicate them.
