"A historic palace with service to match — and one small fix needed
We stayed at the Alvear for a long weekend in Recoleta and it lived up to its reputation. The location is excellent: quiet, elegant, and within walking distance of the neighbourhood’s best restaurants and cafés, with easy access to the rest of the city.
The building itself is a real treat — a historic palace, beautifully maintained, with the kind of detail and grandeur you rarely find in modern hotels. Staying there feels like part of the experience rather than just a place to sleep.
The staff are consistently warm and attentive, and the concierge service deserves a special mention: it is genuinely a cut above. You can reach them easily by WhatsApp, which made everything effortless — we booked restaurants and theatre tickets well in advance without a single complication. Extremely convenient.
My only criticism is a small one: the scrambled eggs at breakfast were poor — so much so that I couldn’t finish them on any morning. It’s a minor detail in an otherwise outstanding hotel, and an easy one to put right."
