Overall, the property was Good: breakfasts, the dinner we had, the rooms were all as expected; the interior decor is good: the dining room had a display cabinet with an old radio set I remember from when I was a kid!! The location is a short walk (downhill) to the City Gates, good for buses, shops and marina with its shops and restaurants. Unfortunately, we were in a street facing room where, on Wednesday night, we were woken up by music and what must have been karaoke at about 0130 (Thursday). When we made a complaint to the front desk Thursday morning, they were sympathetic and moved us to another room without issue. They said they had previous issues with noise, even to the extent of calling the police - who would seem powerless to act, as the licence for the venue (Outrolado, next door to the hotel) is for Wednesdays to Sundays, 1900 to 0200. This venue is the only one of its sort in the area: the licence seems at odds with the locale. Once I find out to whom to moan at in PDL, I intend to write a letter of complaint. The hotel doesn't need it and I guess, neither do any locals who live nearby.

Only book one room at a time
I booked two double rooms, one 11 months out and one 8 months out. I confirmed with them that the rooms were good since they were checking I didnt accidentally book 2 rooms. 2 weeks before they tell me that the single room wouldn't be available and wanted to see if we can take a triple room. I never booked a single room but was told that even though I paid the price for a room with a double bed because it was a single traveler they were going into the single room. My mom rebooked herself into another hotel and let them know, waited a few days and they never cancelled my mom's room, not sure if they were hoping I forgot and they could keep it, they were surprised when I cancelled it asking if I was still planning on staying there. I ended up getting a triple room even though I just wanted the double, not sure if they were planning on sticking us both in this room and collecting the fees for 2 rooms. Later when checking out the 'locked' room with my bags was unlocked and the door was wide open, I walked out with my bags without telling anyone. If you are a single visitor and want a double room, say you have two people otherwise they will downgrade you.

Great location, everything was clean
Ideally located on pedestrian street, good sized room for a 2 star. The grab and go breakfast for early departures was great. They also booked my taxi for 4:45 am. Overall just a good deal.

Settled and happy for 2 nights 🌙
As Ponta Delgada changes and grows our visits and where we stay changes too as we try new areas.....this was a great spot. Thank you....we enjoyed our stay here....very content with our room. We enjoyed this area of the city. It was just a perfect breakfast- thank you for this too.

Awesome stay
Great place to stay in a vibrant spot. Close to a lot of Cafes , restaurants, and a lot of things to do . Great Customer Service. Tasty breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice .Breakfast to go was made for me with juices and yogurt. Much appreciated! They made arrangements for my taxi transport to the airport . Awesome place to stay and very very quiet… slept well!!!

We were both very happy with our recent stay at the Hotel Alcides. The staff were fantastic and very friendly and helpful! The rooms were modern and very clean! The hotel is located at a fantastic location a short walk to the Town gates and the main squares. Lots of shopping and dining options available in the immediate area . We hope to return in the future and would definitely recommend the Alcides!

Great Staff!
The staff was lovely and accommodating. Breakfast was ok, but in a small area that couldn’t hold the guests so there was a wait. We left after two nights only because the A/C was broken and it was a Sunday where no one could come help. They were lovely about it, and we wish we could have stayed due to their lovely demeanor. Rooms are a bit small and dated, but they get the job done!

Cozy hotel well located and with welcoming staff !
Cozy hotel located in the center of the city, my room was simple but very clean and with everything you need to have a nice stay. Nice bed ! Reception and kitchen guys very welcoming and helpful . My flight to leave the island was early morning but there was no problem of having breakfast before time which was quite nice... Quality of breakfast was good !

Perfect stay! This hotel had a central location, easy to walk to restaurants and tour the town on foot, metered road parking just a few blocks away (free overnight). The staff were wonderfully cheerful, the bed comfortable and the buffet breakfast varied. The hotel restaurant is also a lovely spot for dinner but requires a reservation, as do most places in town actually. It gets busy, even in the off season.

A friendly hotel, distinguished by it's staff, all ready to help. Well positioned for the rest of the city with many small cafes and restaurants nearby. We had an early start for the airport and were told we had to pay for our stay. Luckily we had kept the email from Expedia showing our payment so this was quickly sorted. We'll be glad to stay here again.

Perfect city hotel

Great location, quick walk to the waterfront. Room was clean and spacious (we had #206) which comes with an extra bed and a small balcony. Would definitely stay here again.

Great customer service
Wonderful location, room was very clean. The attached restaurant is fabulous. Their customer service is top notch. We had come thru a couple of weeks prior to our stay and they were willing to hold items we purchased that we would pick up on our way back through - so we did not have to haul them to another island and back. We asked for a 5:30 am taxi and they made the arrangements - and the taxi was there for our ride to the airport. Would definitely stay at Alcides again!

Central and comfortable
We chose the Alcides from reviews from Expedia and are happy to report that they were right! Its a great little centrally located hotel within easy reach of plenty of bars and restaurants, a few minutes walk from the sea front and marina, the reception staff were friendly and always happy to go the extra mile to help with anything.

We spent one night at Hotel Alcides pm a stopover before heading home and it was clean, comfortable and centrally located near several restaurants and a short walk to the waterfront. They do offer free breakfast which we did not get to take advantage of due to an early morning flight but they have coffee,tea and yogurt, some bread available for the early risers. The only complaint I would have is that the complimentary shampoo and body wash were in packets and very small portions.
