"The Melanesian is a long-standing feature of the Port Vila accommodation scene and it's very well-priced. The Orchid Rooms are very pleasant but they all face onto the pool area. So you will want to have the windows shut if the music played at the bar and people's conversations bother you. The AC unit in my room did an OK job with keeping the room comfortable even with windows shut. The rooms have a good desk and small table for people needing to do work while there. "I turned up almost 2 hours after check in time and my room was no ready - staff could not have been more unhelpful, particularly the male worker at reception. After asking for a refund and asking to speak to the manager I was finally provided a room in the same category that I booked. I walked past many vacant rooms on my way so staff had zero empathy. My plans had been changed and no apology offered. Would not recommend this hotel"

"Hotel has no elevator so need to climb 1 or 2 floors, with luggage if there’s no porter. Location quite near beach cafes and bars. Walking distance to city’s only shopping mall. Hotel rooftop has good view of sunsets. There’s a karaoke room and small coffee cafe in lobby "
