"The staff was friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately the property itself appears poorly maintained. It felt like ownership was cutting costs by doing only the bare minimum to keep the hotel operating. The hotel description and advertised amenities were misleading, especially regarding the “continental breakfast.” Breakfast consisted mainly of stale breads and fruit, watered-down coffee, and old frozen breakfast sandwiches that appeared far from fresh.
The rooms and bathrooms had numerous cracks, holes, and visible signs of wear. While there have clearly been attempts at renovation, they felt more like temporary cosmetic fixes rather than meaningful improvements. The property and surrounding location seem to have a rich history and a lot of potential, but sadly it appears there is very little care or investment being put into preserving it by the current ownership."
"The place is just wonderful. The staff is the best. We were staying because my mom fell and was brought to the local hospital. We ended up needing to add two nights, then another two and then one more. Each time they were so accommodating.
We also ate at the restaurant one night. All our meals were excellent.
The location is perfect."
"This is a fine establishment. I need to say that up-front. It is immigrant family owned, which can be code for some people.
But this a compliment for this property. The family works hard, is attentive, appears very supportive of each other, and very outgoing with their guests.
I would stay with them any time I was in the Saint Joseph/Benton Harbor area - they offered real value, and I liked the operators very much."
"Our room reeked of smoke and had the window open and a machine with a water bucket trying to pull the smoke smell out. Gloria was so friendly and tried to help us. But, the room she moved us to did not have a pullout couch like she said. I went back again and explained it did not have the couch so we did not have enough beds. She then told me we could have the connecting room. When I opened it, it had no sheets on the bed and reeked of marijuana. We decided to just stay in the room that didn’t have enough beds for us as we did not want our kids staying in this hotel in a separate room. The third floor smelled like Indian food. The pool was CLOUDY and when my kids got into the hot tub and turned it on, this powder misted into the air and caused my son to have a reaction in his lungs. Staff was friendly but the management is terrible. The owner drove up in his Tesla and obviously is doing well financially. He needs to put some of that back into the property. We would never stay here again."
