We had a lovely stay at the Cenobio Hotel. It is in an old convent and the architecture is beautiful. We had room 6 which was comprised 2 sleeping areas, with wonderful arched ceilings and built from the original stone. We had a large terrace outside with an incredible view over the gorge. To get to the hotel, we parked in a car park reserved by the hotel. I have too many amazing things to say about this 'hotel' We arrived around 10pm and were given a tour and told the history of the caves and this hotel they must've been waiting for us to arrive but we were not rushed at all! Given a free upgrade to our room which was just phenomenal! We went for a romantic weekend, weather as 22 c Dry , materia was clean, the hotel staff especially in the restaurant were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us , we would recommend staying half board, food was fantastic, the room was clean , the only negative ( no English channels) so we couldn’t watch anything while getting ready for dinner! But again overall it was brilliant well done!!!

The Palazzo Gattini is very centrally located and close to the cathedral. The view from the roof terrace is stunning! Breakfast was very good indeed, particularly the fresh orange juice and eggs cooked to order. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Although we didn't eat dinner in the hotel (preferring to experience what Matera had to offer), I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a short luxury break.
