Shabby and rundown on the outside, but my room was very satisfactory. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location. Very quiet.

Front staff excellent and room was clean. But there was no bar or restaurant or even breakfast. Fortunately a short walk to Penkridge centre and several excellent places to eat.

Staff very helpful on our arrival. Room very comfortable and clean. Short distance away from village for either take away meals or eating in. Convenient for M6.

Good budget hotel

As other people have said, the hotel is looking tired and in need of tlc but we had a large clean room with big comfortable bed. Plenty of hot water and the staff were very friendly and helpful. At a budget price, we found nothing to complain about and would definitely stay here again. Penkridge itself, only a couple of hundred yards away, is delightful, with great pubs and places to eat.

No hot water

Nice clean room and comfortable but no hot water couldn't have a shower when I woke up, and no phone in the room to call reception

The property itself is very run down, and needs to be refurbished and the exterior grounds tidied up. The resturant facility hasn't been in use for years for whatever reason, so I would suggest the owner should consider creating self catering accommodation as a future possibility. Staff are brilliant, but seem to be frustrated with having to apologise continually to visitors about the lack of facilities.

Quiet dog friendly hotel

What a great find! Charming little hotel that really is dog friendly located on the quiet outskirts of a lovely little town. Really glad we opted for two nights over just the one needed as it gave us a chance to wander the town. The hotel itself is nothing grand, it could do with a little TLC here and there, and its a shame there is no food or bar available. However there is so much in easy walking distance that was just us being lazy. It was comfortable, the room was clean and quite pleasant, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Your next door neighbour is a memorial garden that leads to the church and graveyard, so late night disturbance is rather unlikely. It does also back onto a railway line, but we didn't find it that obtrusive. This will be our hotel of choice anytime we are up here for a dog show on on the way further up north. Only complaint is not down to them its that google will try and send you about 3 miles down the road - which at night means you end up totally lost.

Unsanitary

Not ideal. Used condom wrapper on the desk of first room. We didn’t look further to see what else hadn’t been cleaned and asked to change room. Reception did not seem surprised at the news. No compensation offered. New room was better but bins etc still not emptied from previous guests and surfaces in room and bathroom had a sticky residue. Corridors and stair wells also scattered with used tissues and other litter, large cobwebs and dog urine (which I appreciate is also the responsibility of the dog owners). We had our two dogs with us, and really appreciate pet friendly accommodation but have never experienced that level of uncleanliness. Don’t normally leave negative feedback but this stay was next level disappointing.

Dirty filthy room - not Covid cleaned

Looking for a plug (which I never found) near the bed to plug in my laptop & phone I put on my phone torch to look underneath bedside table, this was how my attention was drawn to how dirty the room was, stayed one night to break up a long drive as part of a business trip, all I wanted was a clean room, underneath the bedside table was covered in cobwebs, couldn't have been cleaned in months. After finding no plug next to the bed I plugged in my laptop & phone by the TV, I ran my finger down the side of the cupboard & again the dust & dirt was terrible, with free parking & wifi for the cost this seemed like a great deal but I actually found it hard to sleep knowing the room was so filthy. The next morning I got packed up & left sharp, the bed felt unclean & I was not comfortable in showering, the staff member who greeted me on arrival was obviously not happy to be working & pesky customers turning up, well that all just seemed a bit to much for them, in the morning there was literally no one around, I sat in reception for about 10 minutes checking emails on my works phone & a quick look at online maps & weather for London which was my final destination but I saw no staff, I probably should have said something about the room cleanliness as they really should be cleaning in current climate with Covid & a general sensitivity that we should all be a bit more aware of hygiene but I doubt it would have been acknowledged. Handy stopover

We had read many poor reviews for this hotel but were curious to see if they matched our experience. Thankfully they did not. On arrival it is fair to say what was once a very elegant building does now look tired and shabby. However, inside the guy on reception could not have been more helpful. We had a 3rd floor room offered but he changed it readily for a ground floor room when we explained that we had a dog. The room was spacious warm and clean. We had local take away menues in the room so that we could order dinner which was able to be delivered. There was a huge car park which was ideal as we had a trailer to park. We were also able to walk the dog from the hotel. We slept well. It was very quiet. Tea and coffee in our room and a large table with 2 chairs to sit at to eat our dinner. Ideally situated from the motorway. We would stay again without hesitation. Thank you for a relaxing stay 😌

Great for a couple of nights but seen better days

Hotel was a bit tired looking, peeling paint, looked a little run down. Inside was clean, staff friendly. Room OK, too warm, beds way too soft. Bathroom not the cleanest but not inpleasant. A modern mixer shower and fewer disposable plastic items might help.

Haggered and worn, No water pressure, Staff Lovely

Haggerton Hotel, Absolutely Haggered. Falling apart, bed was well worn with the faux suade hanging off. Walls and seams all peeling, single glazed windows and a bathroom fit for a brothel. Water pressure goes to a trickle when others are using it so that didnt help. Had a yapping dog in the anexed room next door which didnt help. However the staff were friendly and the cleaner clearly does a good job with what they have because it didnt feel unclean, just very very tired and grotty. Wouldnt recommend staying here.

Fantastic value

Stayed here with my dog. I wasnt expecting much having read all the negative reviews, so it was a lovely surprise to be welcomed personally (even though I arrived later than expected and at a very uncivilised time). I had a very spacious room with an amazing comfy bed and lashings of hot water -Perfect! Yes, it isn't the latest decor by any means, and the seals in the bathroom are old and a bit mouldy, but it was all clean enough and fantastic value for money. Would definitely stay again. Only thing which would have been nice would be a simple breakfast! Sadly the hotel has no dining room...

Grotty.

Very friendly staff. The room hadn't been cleaned very well and the bathroom was filthy. Yellow stains around the toilet floor area and various heavy grime spots around. Plenty of dust throughout the room and very worn carpets with expose grip rods. Not worth the extra rate hotels seem to be these day. Lots of shouting and screaming in the car park in the night. Should of slept in a bush. Again, the staff was friendly.

disabled car park was full of builders vans so we had to park further away , the whole place stank of wet dog and damp , our room was just old , damp and had black mould in the corners of the room , the staff were amazing but could only do so much with what they had , the pictures online must of been taken years ago because it looks nothing like that now , all in all the worst hotel i’ve ever stayed in and definitely won’t be returning
