"The hotel is a bit dated, but it’s clear the staff works hard to keep the property well maintained. The beds were comfortable, the air conditioning worked great, and the pool was clean and enjoyable. The beach access was excellent and very convenient. Overall, it was a good value for the price, and I would definitely stay here again."

"We stayed on the 13th floor (penthouse). The balcony views of the beach were great. Watched the sunrise two mornings. The free breakfast buffet was great, we ate there every morning with eggs, sausage, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, juice and coffee with Stevia (yay!). The boardwalk is just out the back door. Within walking distance to restaurants and shopping."

"I had to go to Kill Devil Hills for the wedding of a cousin, plus my birthday. I had never stayed at a hotel in this area before, so I relied on the reviews of other travelers. Shutters on the Banks received very good reviews and rating, so I chose it. This hotel is right on the beach. It was exceptionally clean in my room. I was very impressed. There were two women at the front desk; one of them had a birthday the day after mine, and they were both very helpful, friendly, and a real joy to speak with. There was an indoor and an outdoor pool, and a small gym, but I didn't get to use any of these amenities. Get a room in the tower building, at least on the third floor or higher. I had a room on the second floor, which had a nice little balcony and some Adirondack chairs, but all I could see were the dunes, not the Atlantic Ocean. There was also a complimentary breakfast, but alas, I did not get to eat there. The grounds were also very well kept. If I ever go back to this area, this is the hotel where I will stay. My only complaints are 1) I had a room with two queen beds, and the bed I slept in had a raised elongated lump, which made me unable to lie flat, and to roll off to the side of the mattress. The other issue was the shutters; I closed them as tightly as possible, but by 6 am, it was as bright as noon in the room. The second night I had to drape a blanket across the shutters to keep the room dark enough to sleep."
