We booked the Shibu Hotel as part of our plan to visit the nearby Snow Monkey Park. The quality of the hotel sevice was immediately evident when they provided a car to collect us from the station. They then drove us to the Snow Monkey Park and arranged to collect us when we had finished our visit. A bit of a culture change for the uninitiated, but this hotel is incredible. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are just lovely and served in a traditional environment that sets you up for the day. Wish we could have stayed for longer.

What an amazing place this is. As soon as you check in you're given a welcome matcha tea and sweet treats. The dining area has free flavoured water and hot drinks 247 and the breakfast was so tasty. They even catered for vegetarians. The room was gorgeous. Tatami mats covered the floor with a beautiful seating area with tea and a kettle for you to use in the room. Gorgeous area and hotel. Hotel was quiet and smelled amazing. Great onsen options and spa options. Lush town within easy walking distance. Gorgeous views from the room.

I will be up front, this is an older property with some older sensibilities, not everything is pristine and glistening and new. What you do get however is one of the most charming bath houses, set against a backdrop of stunning mountains. It is a family run business and they will and do go the extra mile for their guests. There was a shuttle expecting us outside Yudanaka station, even though it's just a 6min walk to the hotel, but much appreciated when you're carrying bags. The place is beautiful and the private onsen: AMAZING (indoor and outdoor). Breakfast was a nice varied Buffet and loved the provided yukatas. Would definitely go back!

It is a really excellent hotel with wonderful staff. The room was very good.

The staff was really nice. We got free milk and it was only ¥100 for extra bottles if milk, which are a MUST when taking an onsen. We had a private onsen in our room, but there were also public onsen in the hotel! Everything was super clean and the hotel is located close to the bus-terminal.

Beautiful ryokan with amazing variety in food.

Lovely modern design. We upgraded free of charge to a Japanese style room. Great recommendation for a local restaurant with a free glass of wine voucher. The staff were very friendly also.

Was a most wonderful and relaxing experience. Only the fact that the indoor pool is closed for the whole month of June was disappointing.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Sakurai. We booked the top floor suites, which came with several extra benefits. The room was very large and well laid out, with a kitchen, a bathroom with a jacuzzi and stunning view, two bedrooms, and a living area. We were taken straight to our room by a concierge when we checked in, which was a nice touch. The view was excellent — you could see the town centre from the room. Lovely hotel with newly renovated rooms and public areas. Very friendly and helpful staff, most speak English. Great welcome on arrival with little snack and drink! The complementary shuttle service was awesome, if it was the pick up from the Shinkansen, the drop off to go skiing or the ride to a restaurant for dinner, there’s always a car available to take you around! Wish we would have stayed longer than just two nights! We will be back if time allows!

Fabulous, if I’m to comment on one thing it would be that check in was very slow. Otherwise it was stunning . Food was wonderful.
