Fantastic hotel with history and charm. Excellent breakfast. The spa was unique, relaxing, and the best I've been to. I recommend adding that on with the Ringing foot bath.
We really loved this hotel. The "jailhouse" vibe was cool and we enjoyed the history presented along with it. The kakola neighborhood is beautiful and worth exploring. The hotel staff were very helpful and kind.
Friendly staff, clean and well appointed rooms, excellent breakfast, walkable distance to the riverfront, safe beautiful surroundings. The old prison vibe was still there in a good way - not your usual cookie cutter hotel. I will most definitely come back!
We spent two nights at Hotel Kakola over the Mid-Summer break with the family. The hotel was unique and the atmosphere was welcoming, and the rooms were modern, clean, and well-designed.
Our stay included breakfast and the hotel offers plenty of variety of options . The staff was friendly and helpful.
We also had the chance to relax and enjoy the SPA with additional charge.
Overall we have enjoyed our stay at Hotel Kakola and I recommend it to anyone looking for a special experience in Turku.
Nice hotel, little bit off the town. Room was nice though understandably quite little due previous use. Slept well, breakfast was just like on any other hotel, except no cappuccino.
Strong recommendation for nearby Restaurant Kakolanruusu rather than hotel restaurant!
Hotel Kakola is wonderful and unique. Previous prison has been renovated with good taste and quality. The prison theme has been used in good manner in decoration.
Room was like new and clean. Bed was excellent. Room was silent and even the A/C was very quiet but worked perfectly.
The only thing which could be better is parking hall where the slots are rather narrow for modern cars.
What a unique place to stay! A boutique hotel built in the former County Prison atop the highest hill in Turku. It's such an interesting place. I should say first that I only awarded four stars because I happened to have a very small -- though nicely appointed and functional -- room. I'm sure I would have given the fifth star if a larger room had been available for me. (I should say that my bathroom was surprisingly large for a small room). The hilltop is so interesting. The best place to watch an 11 p.m. sunset in Turku in June. A short distance from the hotel is an even more imposing former prison -- now condos, restaurants, and a bar. It was an amazing area to explore, and although a little bit outside the center of town, the hilltop is actually closer to the castle, maritime museum, ferries, and riverwalk than places more central, all accessible via a fun, free funicular if you choose not to walk down the hill. Highly recommended.
This is an incredibly nice hotel. The staff were kind and helpful, the room is very comfortable and clean, the food was good, and you get a discounted rate at a lovely spa a short walk away. My only complaint is that, as an American who lives in a country with a prison industrial system, I was hoping this prison-turned-hotel would be focused more on "Isn't it wonderful our crime rate is so low in Finland that we close prisons rather than open more? Look how we reused the space to provide a comfortable space for travelers to sleep and a nice cafe where people can enjoy meals together". The decor is lots of barbed wire and handcuffs attached to furniture and a giant mural of the prisoners in the restaurant. They make it nearly impossible to not think about the people who were once held there. I wish, much like the way a lot of old churches have been turned into secular community spaces, that this old prison felt more interested in a brighter future rather than clinging to a dark past.
Kaikki oli parempaa kuin oli odotukset.
Huone viihtyisä,kaikki laadukasta.
Aamiainen monipuolinen,tuoretta,ja hyvää.
Ravintola Ruben ruoka ja palvelu ylitti odotukset.
