"The first visual impression of Secret Manor was a very positive one- classic ancient Chinese architecture. We are greeted by friendly staff who took care of our luggages and sat us down. Refreshments were served while the staff worked on the check-in. After which, the staff brought us to our room and explained the details on switches and other amenities. They also provide a “live-concierge” via WeChat where we can seek assistance from the staff. We had a spacious room that was clean with comfortable bed. The selection of food at breakfast was a good spread. The dish that stood out was definitely the noodles station (mi xian soup) which is also a very popular local breakfast fare. Special thanks to Kadi (the hotel manager) for all the tips he provided and his engagements. Overall, a very pleasant stay!"

"My girlfriend and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect getaway. Waking up to that **incredible breakfast**—homemade, fresh, and so thoughtfully prepared—was such a treat every morning. The island itself is **pure magic**: quiet, untouched, and exactly the peaceful escape I needed. And the host? Just **the kindest, most welcoming person**—not only did they make sure I had everything I needed, but their passion for tea turned simple evenings into these lovely, memorable moments. "Room was nice, but not the best place to stay. The problems were as of the time of this review they are still fixing the road, so you can't call a car from the front, you have to take a walk around the corner which is an inconvenient place for the driver to pick you up. Apparently, this road has been under construction for the last 5 years, and the locals I spoke to think it will be the same for a few more years. Other than that, the breakfast was revolting, the bread was hard around the edges, the eggs had a metallic smell to them which I didn't dare eat, and the one mouthful of coffee I did have immediately got spat back out, really not good. Couldn't even eat the bacon, and as I walked out of the dining room most plates had a substantial amount of food left on them. Ended up just ordering breakfast from outside after the second day. Lastly, I thought it was pretty poor form to charge people upwards of 25 yuan to use the washer and dryer when most hotels that are actually cheaper just let you use the laundry facilities for free. Anway the room is fine if you need to be in central Dali but other than that go to Gucheng instead. "
